I made a minor change through SkinStudio....

But can't get it to apply

Saturday, January 13, 2007 by sophiesboy | Discussion: SkinStudio Help

I was looking through DevianArt recently and found this visual style:

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45968310/

Called Sh4rp by The Greenhouse Troll (TGT Design)

I did not find a Windowblinds versioni here on the site, so I downloaded the VS and converted it to WB format in SkinStudio, for my personal use.

However, I didn't like the taskpane color in the Shell, as it was a dull, flat blue which didn't really seem to work well in my opinion.

So using SkinStudio, I went into XP Shell, and I changed the Taskpane Background Color Attribute and the Background Gradient Color Attribute to get a version more pleasing to my eyes, and the preview looked quite nice to me. (Specifically, I am referring to the area in the Taskpane where command areas such as the "FIle and Folder Tasks" show up.)

I saved the changed skin as a renamed file, which showed up in WindowBlinds without trouble. However, when I loaded the Blind, I saw no evidence of the changes I made to the taskpane.

If I go to the "code" tab, I see that the source code (lines 1945 through 1951) have changed to reflect the colors I selected, so I do not understand why they do not seem to be applying when I load the skin.

Am I missing a step in my attempt to make the change or save the file?

Is it possible that some kind of conflict is arising because I still have the original Sh4rp imported blind in my system at the same time as the renamed version?

I would like to figure out how to get my changes to work. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've found that sometimes skin changes are 'incomplete' in one way or another - a highlight color doesn't get changed or transparency fails (magic pink shows) or something like that. Sometimes I have to reload a skin 2 or 3 times to fix this, sometimes takes a reboot. If you haven't tried the latter, might be worth a go.

In SkinStudio, XP Shell, Shellstyle (unofficial), select Shell Style XP Low Level definition, right click and select remove selection, do the same for Embedded Strings. This will allow your changes to show.

To Cavan1:

I followed your suggestions and, although the preview shot in Window Blinds showed no change, the changes do show up in actual use.

Thanks for the help.
