This January, Windows Vista is unleashed fully upon the world with the consumer product release.  Soon we'll be seeing new PCs come preloaded with Vista and Windows XP will slowly become a thing of the past.  At a price point of up to $400 though, some may want to know what they're getting into before making the plunge.

To that end, we've put together a sort of walkthrough series of articles focusing on Windows Vista Ultimate and what might or might not be of interest to you all, as power users.  The first article went up earlier today, with subsequent articles going up every Tuesday up to the end of January.  This kicks off a month of great Vista-related content as we approach the consumer release date.

I'll probably get a new PC with windows vista for my birthday on march

I've been using the RC 2 version of Vista for the past couple of months, and it seems all right. One thing though, unless ALL of Stardock's apps and games run on the 64-bit version of Vista, I'm sticking with XP. Can't live without OD and the rest.

There & Back Again, or be careful what you wish for - I prefer a notebook, it's like easy reading. I tried Vista Ultimate. It has some cool stuff, like folders icons which show their contents. The security is amazing, like big brother watching your every step. But unless you have a new Vista ready laptop with a high end video card, your out of luck. I scored well in all categories except video. I could only run aero basic (yuck!). Sure, the games were kinda nifty and the sidebar was something special, but until there's a way to overcome big brother locking me out of aero and WB5, I'll stick with xp pro. It's just too early, especially concerning vista compatible software, to make a valid switch.
