Japan PS3 Sales Fall 49 Percent

Sales of the Playstation 3 fell by nearly 49 percent in the first week, and the low shipments are being blamed for this drop. Over 88,000 consoles were sold in the first two days, and just about half that the following week.
The U.S. numbers have not been released, but many predict the same type of drop. It's also reported that game sales were lower than expected because people were buying the console mainly for reselling. Gamestop sold an average of 1.5 games with the PS3 console, and the Nintendo Wii sold an average 3 games with the console.

correct me if i'm misinterpreting your post, but i disagree because it is the developer's responsibility to keep the supply consistent with the demand, and if they fail to do so then they are at fault.
the soap opera that is called the PS3 sure is entertaining though...

I'm with Nick, this is a non-story and just more media piling on the "Sony is doomed" parade. Of course sales dropped 49%, there's less supply than the week before! What matters is how many units sold-through of those actually available in the market? I daresay it was likely 100%, but that's not juicy enough to be news.

but while we're on the subject someone make a ps3 skin that has to be the sexiest console ever, i mean there's an xbox 360 skin and that system looks like a cereal box that somebody stept on

I disagree with Threi for sure, becuase he is basically saying if people kill each other over limited supply of a product the company is responsible. Sony had to recall millions of laptop batteries and recently even the ones in their own laptops. Who cares if they use blue ray just so the system works blue ray is just discs with more storage on them. Sony evidently still does not know what a detachable hard drive is or even a detachable face.
Well devin5801. The PSP i wonder were they got that concept it sure looks a lot like the Sega Game Gear except flatter.
The PS3 looks like a pillow with the old black atari front. Not to mention its wireless hub that they should of put inside the system not out were kids will put there finger prints on it.
Who would spend $600 + on something thats only as good as Xbox or Nintendo. By the time you pay $250 + for wii and buy a 2gb memory card for $100 + you can just as well buy the 360 premium.
Most people will not have the money and if they do it be the only thing they would be getting and they be looking at it till they have the $60 + to buy a game for it. Then some of them will probably end up selling it, becuase they are broke and need the money. Then some will spend all they got on it to go make online profit.
Then you have people that will rob people standing in lines its better then robbing a bank no alarms people outside and you know they have money.

I would agree but given the fact that the supply they gave was what they had to offer and no more could be given, it could be argued that this IS the supply at its max and should be judged as such. In business when you can't meet demand, you can fail even though you can meet it later on. So it could be looked at as a slow down at a time when it should be up... considering its Christmas. Microsoft is shipping 10 million; how much will they sell by Christmas eve considering the only 2 you can find is the Wii and the Xbox?

I think the Wii is just too much fun, costs less, and if you want gaming, you'll just get an XBOX (of which has XBOX Live and you can connect it to your home computer and network).

The point of sales figures are to gauge customer demand, not manufacturer supply; sales are obviously clamped by supply. Am I defending Sony's inability to ramp up its supply chain? Absolutely not.

I think it is the cost. I looked at one for my grandson and it would be cheaper for me to buy a computer. I brought him more games for his ps2.
