Optimus 103 Keyboard: Available for a mere $1200!
Man, that would have been a steal even at $2000 :P

A lot of commotion has been made the past year or so about the spiffy keyboard from Art Lebedev that could display dynamic images on the keys themselves. Combined with programmable function keys, it looked like the Optimus keyboard might offer something really new and interesting to the pretty boring world of keyboard tech. Well, time came and went and it looked like the Keyboard of the Future wouldn't materialize. Then the company reappeared saying it was still coming, but they would have to cut out some features in order to make the device available at a "reasonable price". What was lost? Key displays were supposed to be color, and were switched to black & white.
Unfortunately, it looks like that "reasonable price" is anything but. I'm not sure many people can justify a keyboard that costs as much as a good gaming system, especially considering how much abuse keyboards endure and how likely they are to break.
Oh well, it was a really neat concept anyway.

Remember 'em...I still got one!!
And if keyboards ever get up around the grand plus price range, I'm going back to my Flintstone keyboard, which was refurbished with sharks teeth keys cos apparently they're even more 'cutting edge' and have 'sharper' response times....
The only disadvantage of such cutting edge technology is having to wear those shark proofed mesh gloves divers wear to prevent finger cuts while typing....
And who needs the lit keys of the Optimus 103 anyhow! My Flintstone keyboard allows for a candle to be lit underneath to do that....add some phospherous and a few copper filings, etc to the flame, and you've got coloured lit keys, beats using those plain old shark-tooth white ones.
1200 dollar keyboards is technology gone mad, and if they can freely exhibit lunacy, I'm jumping on the bandwagon with some tongue in cheek sarcasm....but at least mine's affordable so I'm still able to donate to my pet charity...ME!

If the keyboard weighs 900 grams and gold is selling at $20 (US) it's cost would be $18,000 (US)

You know a change is as good as a holiday - and it's never too late to change, so if I promise to be your best buddy forever, can I help you spend some of those very-well -off, hard earned dollars? I got a fantastic idea to upgrade the prehistoric mouse and keyboard to a Jestsons version that'll not only fly you to work while organising your daily schedule/events, but also make coffee and send out for lunch.

$1200 sounds pretty good now plus that keyboard is pretty fancy...
Maybe they just forgot to mention these additional specs when they first marketed this keyboard.

Hardly....would be nice, but hardly! Seems so much effort went into illuminated keys, they entirely forgot the cord to plug it in.....$150.99 with the keyboard/cord package deal, or $149.99 as an optional extra.

Seems to me you'd be better off to buy a touch screen and mount it on to your keyboard tray, then use DesktopX to skin it's work area with "keys". It would end up with better functionality, and be way cheaper.
