Haven't seen the prices on the Wii as yet, but if PS3 prices are anything to go by, she can test drive a store demo....I'll even get her a weekly bus ticket so she can go play every day.

I still haven't decided when or where I'm going to try and get one
Last night, 16 November, here, there were people camping out in line all night at Best Buy, Circuit City and other locations, just to TRY and get a PS3. No guarantees when they got to the door there would be any more available. 25 degress F out last night, snowy and windy. Heard one person sold their place in line for $300 USD. The word here is "Don't count on one under the Christmas Tree..."
Will probably go for the Wii, sometime after the first of the year. Currently on a three-year-old GameCube, CDs supposed to be able to play on the Wii. Price $250 USD. Incl. 1 game, sports, and 1 set of controllers.
$800.00 AUD ?!! That's one heck of a lot of groceries.
Heads-up display goggles might be nice...

Not any more.....not that long ago we could chocka-block fill a shopping cart for under $200 AUD, now we're pushing (manure uphill with a toothpick) to half fill one for more than that cos of rising fuel prices pushing everything up.
Sad, isn't it....just bought an HP PhotoSmart C4180 All-in-One and a Ritmo Webcam for AUD $190....$87 less than our fortnightly groceries...

Not too excited about the weird controller either. Gloves or "dance-pad" type of interface, maybe. Definitely goggles, if the bugs are worked out. COMDEX a couple of years ago had demos, but haven't seen anything in the real world yet. There's another thread on future-computing here that looked promising...

I would get a Wii except even at its much more affordable price I can't afford one right now.
People thought the DS was stupid, well why then has it sold incredibly well? Just because its outside the "norm" doesn't mean it sucks. If you haven't used it, and I don't mean demo'd it for 5 minutes in the store, then you can't really say much about whether its a good product or not.
Nintendo is going to easily be in second place with the Wii, Sony drops to third. The only people who will be buying the PS3 are fanboys. The Wii could even over take the 360.

Also, you can load CD's with the Wii? Can you use burnt music CD's? And my ultimate question (since they've put 2 USB ports): can my iPod connect and utilize it's potential (EG playing music/photos/videos through a Wii)?
I guess I would find out if my dad stopped being so anal... (excuse my language).

I've never actually bought a gaming console before, or been one to jump on the Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft bandwagon as far as gaming goes, but the Wii really caught my attention with the way the controls work.
I'm actually happy that it's just a gaming console and not this whole pseudo-entertainment system thing that Microsoft and Sony are trying to push. When I go to play a game, I want to play a great game with little to no time lost on loading and that's about it. Make the controls intuitive and easy and you've got a winner!
Can't wait.

I am just amazed at how stupid people can get...they buy a PS3 because of nothing more than hype...i mean just because something has a lot of technology doesnt mean its a smart buy...
a fanboy was debating if buying a PS3 now posed his argument... "the ps3 is like a fast mini computer" and my counter argument?
"You tell me what makes more sense to you. Buying an entertainment system for $800 that MIGHT be able to be productive, or buying a computer for $150 less that is actually productive and can provide entertainment?"

Sorry but that will never happen. I almost laughed so hard when you suggessted Nintendo could take over on top. WHATEVER. Sony is in first place and will remain there. Keep in mind Sony has the biggest library of games right behind the Gameboy.

having a large library of games means pretty much nothing...what counts is the amount of GOOD games.
Whether the WII is a cheesy gimmick or a means to completely recreate the video game industry, i dont know, but i do know that im gunna reserve the judgment of that for myself only, and not for idiotic fanboys who buy things because they want to follow a fad.

NOTE: Only the best Final Fantasy games like 7 have been on PS.
I for one will not buy the Wii. Nor the DS.

Does she have a sister?
Yes, actually, she has three.....but all are old enough to be your mother, tho I hear a couple of 'em are looking for a toy boy, if yer available.
She also has four brothers....obviously the parents didn't have a TV...nor a Wii, X-Box or a GameCube, just their own playstation.

By the way I just saw that you can get a regular controller for the wii. Why should we have to fork out extra $$ for something "normal"?
You don't "have" to fork out the money if you don't want. Why do you have to "fork" out money for a wireless controller for the PS2? Nothing wrong with wires, right?
