Windowblinds Menu Bar glitch

Wednesday, November 15, 2006 by Liquidfoo | Discussion: WindowBlinds

(X-posted from the OS Cust. Windowblinds forum because I accidently posted there)

For some time now I've had issues with the menu bar in some applications getting corrupted when moused over. Even Stardock Central does it. What happens is that the menu title jumps to the left during a mouseover.

Here's what happens if I just slide left to right:

At this point I don't even recall when it started happening, since I saw it on different computers I assumed it must be a known issue and would get resolved soon.

What version of WB? [Post system info from the WB config here]
What skin? Post a link here.

It's happened on multiple versions of WB, different skins, and different video drivers.

Right now I'm running WB 5.10.009 and the Lozenge skin.

I just upgraded to the new 5.5beta and while obviously Stardock Central doesn't do it now since the menubar is gone, Windows Messenger still does it.

The stuff from the System Information page would be helpful now - might give a clue.

I've never seen any posts on that type particular issue so it's probably not common enough or reported enough.....but a few questions

Are you using a non-english version? There are font issues in the Start Panel for non-english versions, tho I've never heard of it effecting the menus.

Are you using 96 dpi fonts? 120 dpi or "Custom" sized fonts can mess up alignments as well.

The only other thing I can think of is a conflict with/or caused by another program.

No, it's just a standard English Windows XP with standard font size.

Is messenger the only program now with corrupt menus?

MS Paint has it too, as does Textpad. The common thread seems to be that they all have the same style menubar, that shorter low-profile type as seen in the screenshot above.

those file dates almost look like a combination of 5.01.009 and 5.49a(.021

was this maybe a stand a alone install? (as in not done through SDC) they always throw me off

Sorry, between the holidays and work I haven't been back to the board.

It's a SDC install. It happens on all three machines that I use Windowblinds on and they're never in synch as far as drivers, Windowblinds versions, or even skins. I don't understand why it sounds like an isolated issue when it's on all my installs.

Good news! (well for me at least) I did a complete WB uninstall w/reboot then reinstalled w/reboot and the problem seems to be resolved. Probably should have tried that a long time ago. This XP install is very long in the tooth (two months shy of three years now)and I don't know how many versions of WB it has seen at this point. Hopefully it's the same fix on the other systems as well.
