Lego shortage overestimated

Contrary to a flurry of media reports this week that there will not be enough Lego products to go around—in retail—this holiday in the U.S., the toymaker tells Playthings that the reports do not reflect the number of available products globally, in particular, the states.

It's really amazing what can be done with Lego....I once saw a working computer in a store that was entirely housed in a Lego case. Even the CRT monitor was encased with Lego....okay, it may have been a gimmick, but I bet there'd be millions of kids worldwide who'd love to have a Lego-Puter in their bedrooms. ;
I once bought my son a Lego Technics set for Xmas.....wasn't cheap but it provided him endless hours of amusement and contained various motors and gears, etc, that created an endless amount of gadgets/models....until he discovered girls, that is.

I remember that stuff....had a set when I were a lad....
Wow, that was a few moons ago, but as I recall, it had electric motors and gears to create motorised cars, trucks and cranes, etc.....fantastic stuff, that Meccano. Got it for my eighth birthday and kept it up until I was sixteen....
Luggage restictions didn't allow for me to bring to Oz, so I gave it to a cousin, whose kids were still playing with until they grew out of it just a couple of years or so ago. Wow, they don't make toys like that anymore. These days Meccano is mostly plastic, whereas the set I had was metal with brass nuts and bolts for assembly, brass pulleys and gears for all the moving parts....wonderful stuff.
Ahhh, those were the days....

I saw this one in Melbourne just a few weeks ago....
Twin steerer, twin axle, 6 fwd 1 rev gearbox, clutch, suspension, 8 drum brakes, twin differentials...[1 pass-thru], universals, etc, all contols activated in cabin [brakes and clutch by cable] 15v 3amp motor.
All Meccano, apart from the out-sourced wheels.
Yet to do was the crane....

Yep, that's it alright....toys for REAL boys!! 'Tis the kinda stuff that could tear me away from the puter (just upgraded it....thanks, Jafo
) and into model making again.......
Now I just gotta think of a nephew....um, I mean excuse to go get me a set.
