.PNG Alpha Blending

Hi all,
I'm creating a new start menu for my Deep Space skin, but I can't get the alpha blending to work. I have the transparent/translucent checked, the background effects set at normal per pixel alpha..etc. But all I get when I apply the skin is the text on the start menu. I know this is probably something really stupid, but I'm at a loss. Can some really nice person point me in the right direction?

BMP. I just realized that. Is there a way for me to change it to convert it to TGA?

If your PNG is totally opaque, SkS will convert it to BMP. If it has any translucency it will be converted to TGA.
Now if the graphic is just how you want it, then the BMP will work. Just turn off the Translucency switch.
But if you want a translucent start panel, your graphics have to be translucent, before you import them.

I don't want a translucent start panel, I just want the background to be invisible, the white part that you can see that isn't actually part of the start panel itself.

Hey Pat, if the part of the image you want to be invisible is white on the png your png was not transparent when started or finished it. Start a new image with a transparent background.

I did to start with, but apparently when it saved it, it merged layers and turned the background white. Do you know if there is a way to save layers without it making it white?

Has been awhile since I used CS trial but I think you may need to export as a png not save as. Export should be in File on menu bar. Paint Shop Pro when save as a png and if have layers it knows notices the transparent background and merges visible, does not flatten image which causes colored background.

Maybe if I save it as a PNG and then open it in Paintshop Pro....Hmmm...

I don't know anything about Photoshop CS, but if the image is saved with a white background, opening it with PSP isn't going to help. Why not use PSP to start with?

Because I could get as good a bevel on the image. I've used PSP for quite a few years and just recently have gotten Photoshop. The images come out crisper in Photoshop. I'm trying to erase the white background and resave them as PNG's. Then try and import them into SkinStudio. Hopefully it'll work. I appreciate your taking the time to try and help me figure it out.

If you still have the .psd from photoshop, just hide the background layer (click the little eyeball in the layers panel) and then simply save as a .png.
If you don't have the .psd and only have the single layer image, you can still get rid of the white background. Just open the image in photoshop, and double click the layer in the layers panel. Then a little box pops up, just click okay and the layer will no longer be a locked background. Now select the white background with the magic wand, and press delete. As soon as you see little grey and white squares, that means it's transparent. Save as a .png (always make sure that the enable transparancy check box is checked).

Is SkinStudio converting the PNG's to TGA, or BMP?
