WinCustomize is Looking for Articles, Tutorials, Community Content
See your name in lights!
Friday, September 22, 2006 by Zoomba | Discussion: WinCustomize News
Since I started covering WinCustomize in July, I've tried to bring in some regular, weekly content up on the front page and in the articles sections. This comes in the form of daily news articles, weekly polls, the moderator picks of the week, product announcements, contests, Skinner of the Month and more. The hope is to generate more community involvement, to encourage our daily visitors, skinners and forum readers to take an active role in making this site a more relevant and interesting place to gather.
To that end, it's all well and good for me to stand here and post all these articles, news stories, polls and events, but I'm only one person, there's only so much I can do, especially when events such as the GUI Champs come along and demand a significant time investment. So, here I am, making an appeal to the community. Do you consider yourself anything of a writer? Do you like to pontificate on tech news and events?
At one time, the idea was to have WinCustomize be a site largely driven by the community, well, here's your chance to start driving more of the daily content! If you want to get more involved, drop a comment here with what you'd like to contribute, and we'll go from there.

I'm in!
(How does one do so? I don't see a "Create Post" button in the WC News forum.)

| It was a dark and stormy skin. The fonts were unreadable, but the animations were smooth. It was per-pixel . .. so there wasn't a sound. |

Sounds cool.
I want to write a tutorial or two on random stuff about skinning. I always like sharing whatever little knowledge I have about stuff that interests people.

I think i'm already in as i have multiple DX tutorials.
I would be willing to write some more, if people want them, just not sure how helpful they are.

Great idea about doing articles 'ceptin' seems to me that few people want to hear the truth. I'm talkin' bout someone like Siskle and Ebert when they tear into a new movie.Giving a learned opinion about the pro's and con's of a production. The acting skills and such. If you aply the same type of critique to what some of the skinners are producing in blinds, logs etc.,the art work, the layout, even the color, you always wind up the 'Bad Guy' or worse yet, the old stand by, show me what you've done lately crap. S & E never produced, directed, or even wrote the story for a film yet are the most respected people in the field.( too bad one of'em is dead). You want 'joe average' to have a bigger voice in WC but all the time it's the 'click' that runs the show there. The most unheard of thing I've seen here in all the years I've been using Stardock is the way the 'Pretty People' get star ratings for work that isn't even finished or has to be updated every other day cause the skin is loaded with flaws.STILL-- they get 3 or 4 stars and for what? This has been going on since the start and I doubt it will ever change until the truth is spoken. I had to laugh when you guys made a BIG tadoo about getting new servers and how everything was so greatly improved. HECK, you guys Still don't have it right.Wincustomize is still one of the slowest web sights, and unpredictable, I've ever come across.I admit that there are improvments made but I sure wouldn't go so far as to say that they have been OutStanding.----------Ya wanna hear more?-- Probly not!

Beside being one of those who use lots of skins (for most of the programs listed here), I am myself pretty interested in saying my opinion about new tech hardware and software whether is OS related or pure hi-tech products that come out so fast nowadays as well as home user related products. I work as a computer hardware tech but have few "hobbies" myself I can and would share with all of you.
If interested, I am in...

Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest so far! I'm going to get in touch with you over the next week or so via e-mail to chat about what you'd like to be doing specifically and what I can do to help make that happen.
