MS to Vista App Devs: Just be cool, yo!

Microsoft has issued a declaration of sorts to developers on MSDN. The message? "be cool!" At least, that's the word from Windows chief, Jim Allchin. His declaration to developers reads as a pep rally speech before the big game in an attempt to whip the home crowd into a frenzy. Claims are made of an expected 200 million people purchasing and loading Vista in the first 2 years, and that those millions of people will be looking for applications, cool applications that look as sweet and flashy and cutting-edge as the brand new Operating System.
The letter goes on to cheer the advances in technology such as DirectX 10, and provides links to resource pages on how to make sure applications are compatible with Vista, and how to make sure your application can take advantage of all the OS has to offer. They also provide links to launch events and other resources to help companies market their products to a consumer market hungry for the life-altering experience promised by Vista and Vista compatible software.
As the marketing machine for Vista ramps up, one can only wonder if the pep rally sort of theme will continue. Will Jim get a tank of Gatorade dumped on his head when Microsoft declares victory in January?

If the current (2004+) programs can be updated, and the new programs are incorporating the new abilities in Vista, I would say we could have some real fun with the new OS.
If the 2004 - 2006 programs do not run optimally on Vista (with updating provided by the developers) and any lack of 'affordable' new softwares at time of release, there may be a disappointing showing for 2007 sales.
I can see why Jim is trying to stoke the fire.
