Microsoft To Drop Support For SP1

Thursday, August 31, 2006 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News

On Oct. 10 Microsoft will drop support for SP1 on Windows XP. After that date no more security updates or hotfixes will be available for SP1. Users will need to upgrade to SP2 if they want to use incident support as well.

Oct. 10 is "patch Tuesday", and that will be the last day any fixes for SP1 will ship.

[the dogs...] Feel like I'm (almost) being pushed...even tho I've got SP2, it's still rude. Economics, I realize, but still grumps me up.

it's not economics as much as anyone who ISN'T running SP2 is just insane at this point. the security fixes alone are worth it and to be honest, my system under SP2 runs the way XP should have out of the box.

There are just soooo many things wrong with that statement.. I think Excalpius said it nicely though.

sp2 is free. they'll even mail it to you free. No reason not to push people to update.
