Flyout menus sorta "flutter" out than fly.

Saturday, August 19, 2006 by Allen Chang | Discussion: ObjectDock

Lately I've been having trouble with flyout menus. The icons are supposed to drop down, then fan out; but the fanning out part takes really long. It's slow and is jerky. This didn't used to happen. Does anyone know what I can do about it?

Thanks,

Allen

The icons have been flying out slow for as long as I can rememeber on mine. Wish they were opening as fas as they close. One thing that I did which helped to a noticeable degree is to use png's instead of icon files. I've gathered up all the icons I use on my OD, converted them to a 48px (for flyout items) and 128px ( for zoomers) png's thus getting files that take ~10-20kb not 130kb. Still not perfect but it did help some. The flyout animation is also extremly CPU intensive so any programs running in the background and using CPU at the time will slow it down considerably. Maybe if SD made the flyout icons (optionally) just slide as opposed to fade-in and slide things could be improved a lot.
