HD Sata and HD IDE.., could they work...?

Wednesday, August 16, 2006 by TYCUS | Discussion: Hard Drives

hi everyone!

i'm about to buy a new sata HD, but i already have two HD with connection IDE(you know.., the normal slow HD, with the big cable that says master and slave), and i was asking my self that if it is possible to have a sata HD and a IDE HD at the same time in the same computer? how does the CPU will know which one is the slave and which one the master HD? and about this Sata HD, it's a good speed 7200 of buffer(becouse i saw one with 10000, but it is way too expensive )?

I need your help before i buy something...

thankx!

I have 4 of the Raptor 150 Gb. drives. They're 10,000 rpms. but only SATA 1. However, because of the 16 Mb of cache I find they are faster than SATA 2 drives.
If you want a great drive get one of these.

Like I said I have four hooked up to the my onboard Intel RAID in a RAID 0 (Striped) configuration.

The hard drive: Link

The motherboard: Link

Needless to say, in a RAID 0 data transfer in incredibly fast.

7 physical SATA/PATA drives here...with room for 3 more PATA...CD burner...DVD burner and 870gig of drives.  Boot is still the typical IDE0 Master, but secondary [imaged] OS is on IDE1 Master...all the games/data/etc is on the 2 SATAs...

and 870gig of drives

Bah!! 4 X 320GB SATA II = 1.28 TB RAID 0.

That's my file server, my main PC has 2 X 250 GB SATA II. Gots to have lots of space for all my SD apps and skins!!

And I have trouble filling up my two 160 GB SATA drives! I wouldn't know what to do with all the storage JAFO has. Question SIXX and Kevin: what mobo would bring in that whoppin 150mb transfer speed? Mine boasts 122mb peak and 76mb average.

And how do you back it up? Storage has outstripped backup medium by far!

I run a 200gb IDE system drive, (2) 250GB in RAID for 500gb total, (1) Lacie 500GB Big Disk on firewire 800 and (1) 250gb Lacie D2 on Firewire 800. Plus 3 IDE DVD recorders and 1 External DVD recorder on firewire 400. I edit a lot of video and am running out of space. But it all works great.
