can somone please help me with setting up some addons?

I have windows XP and Windowsblinds..
When I download things such as pointers or icons it comes up as just a plain file once I extract it onto my desk top.. Can somone help me and tell me how I can fix this?

Each kind of "skin" on the site, whether it's icons, cursors, or something else, requires are certain program to use it.
Check the top of the page you are downloading a skin from. There is a Gallery Description box that tells you what software you need and where to get it.
