Assuming you have the programs necessary to apply the skins and/or themes installed on your computer, I wrote some mini tutorials which outline some basic procedures to understand the file use and structures.

For downloading content so you can simply double-click to install many program skins and or themes http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?AID=82563

For one way to set-up and successfully use ObjectDock http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?SID=5463&AID=82930

For understanding where the skins and themes are stored in the relevant program's sub-directories http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?AID=82928

Hopefully this will get you going in the right direction.

Note - if you do not have the appropriate programs installed, you can go to the "Software" tab at the top of the page and download the programs. Some are free, and others are shareware with a time limit.

Note #2 - you can click my name for additional tutorials (most are for ObjectDock Plus).

ok tim...for object dock, once its open click on configure dock.from there you can change your background ( i usually make mine almost completely transparent), you can change the way the way dock interacts by changing the dock size and the magnified size, attention effect i set to bounce, mouse over i set to zoom, zoom effect i set to wide magnification mode and you can change the font that shows up for the programs. you can drag and drop whichever programs you want onto your dock. if you want to change the icon for that program, right click, go to dock entry properties and either pick an icon from there or browse for one you have saved somewhere else and apply it. thats it....regarding extracting anything you download is going to be in a zip file.right click on it, then extract it, which puts into a usable folder wherever you chose to extract it to. after that you can delete the zipped folder as it is no longer necessary....i hope this made sense and helps you out somewhat.as for the other things lets just do one thing at a time...

do you have CursorXP the program installed?
do you have Bootskin the program installed?

what type of file downloaded?
here's some useful info on the file extensions: https://forums.wincustomize.com/index.aspx?ForumID=187&AID=66020&p=1

before you rename, look inside. if there are files inside with extensions like .CurXPTheme then it is a .zip
don't rename those, extract them then double click the file inside.  if you have the appropriate software installed, they will sefl install
