Computer Uptime

Thursday, June 15, 2006 by DragonKid | Discussion: Personal Computing

I'm just curious on something... What is the longest amount of time you've had your computer running without a restart? In other words, what's the longest uptime you've had? Mine is 31 days. An entire month. 744 hours. I'm just curious.

I once had 144 days and was still going until I forgot that if you keep ignoring the Windows Updates eventually it will reboot your computer for you if its a major update. I'm at 10 days now with no signs of problems.

I've been running it for weeks. It's usually a Windows Update or some other driver update that forces me to reboot.

Ummm... around 2 weeks. I was purposly seeing how long I could go, then, a crash. Opened to many things and my computer couldn't handle it lol. Now I reboot 3-4 times a day usually. My AVG does periodical scans, and if I am on webcam during or after a scan, my computer crashes. It sucks .

Usually after a week or two I find that something requires a reboot.

After a while programs start eating up more and more memory, so if you had one of those memory cleaner programs I suppose you could leave it running indefinately.

I shut it down when ever I'm not using it. Less dust in the case and, the computer runs faster overall IMO.

Mine goes on the moment I get out of bed and it stays on until I go back to bed...don't like to keep it going non-stop, runs more eficiently with a daily reboot IMHO.

i have a laptop in a very warm dusty conutry, with no air-con, so i usually turn it off at night, though about 3 days is my record...

there is a great fun site called 'Uptime Project' that lets you compete by yourself or in teams for the longest uptime..the present top uptime is over six years !! (it's a server) you can also have a live image showing off your time :

The only way I've been able to keep my computer on so long is that I have no internet hooked up to it. I posted the message from a different computer. Although, I've started noticing that a few of my regularly used programs have started acting weird, for example, they don't start all the way up, especially Photoshop. But I'm actually amazed it lasted this long. It usually crashes within a week. 'Course, that's because of all the junk that is on it!

My computer virtually never crashes. I just like rebooting every few days, because it seems to make things snappier. Plus, I tend to play with a lot of different apps, and rebooting assures that everything is cleared, and my system starts over in its default state.
