In any case if you saw the game then you would have clearly seen the Aussie defender push the Japanese guy into your incompetent goalkeeper - who by the way should never have come for the ball in the first place - it should have have been a penalty for Japan because your guy tried to assaninate the Japanese guy 
BTW in football it's a referee NOT an umpire
I'm not quite sure what you were watching but whatever it was it must have been better at your end of the spectrum.

IMNVHO, rugby league is the only football there is, even if soccer has a greater following worldwide
Apart from the NRL (the OZ comp), I follow the English Super League on Fox Sports (particularly St Helens)...one or two tough Pommies amongst that lot. And there, it took me ages to convince my reluctant keyboard to allow me to pay that (half assed) compliment.
Oh, and BTW....gotta say it...congrats to England on their win.

Oh yes he did. Aussie goalie mentioned it in interview.
If that goal had been disallowed.....AND... Cahill had a conceded penalty kick....AND the subsequent kick resulted in a goal....guess what the resulting score would have been?

IF the Japanese goalkeeper hadn't had a brain haemorrage in the 2nd half and gifted the Aussies a goal and IF the World Cup had been held in Oz land where the team would have been able to disguise there lack of abilty due to home support and IF they were playing with an oval ball instead of the boring old round one and IF all the players ( or maybe even one ) was actually world class and IF all your players weren't suffering from jetlag ( mind you all of your players come from over here ) and IF the game wasn't being played in a completely inexplicable heatwave and IF Cahill had been sent off of for that tackle ( he wouldn't have been around for the 2nd goal ) and IF the Aussies were playing in a darker coloured strip so as not to blind the Japanese in the glaring sun and IF the Aussies weren't naturally taller than the Japanese ....
the game might have been somewhat different.
But then again...

There is an awful lot of IF's in there....but i grant you that the Aussie's have never really played what i call 'World Cup' soccer, though they are slowly but surely getting there. As for the Japanese? Maybe they should have issued all the players with sun glasses and high heels? God, that would be a turn on would'nt it, just imagine the crowd then!

I'm beginning to think the Cups about the damn refs instead of the game. Three bullshit red cards in one game (US-Italy). All three incidents would be hard pressed to draw a foul in the local league here let alone a yellow card. I hope that's the last game they let that particular guy on the field for.

Not quite sure what your local league is like but maybe you're confusing it with Aussie Rules.
1) trying to break some one's face with an elbow is a straight red - that's the law - much akin to a high tackle in Rugby, a stiff arm in US Football etc
2) trying to cut some one down by flying in on their ankle is a straight red - that's the law
3) 2 yellows = 1 red - that's the law.
The US-Italy game was a great game and well done to them for believing, now if someone could belive against Brazil and actually hold on to a lead ( even increase it ) against them they will win.
Case in point Brazil - England last WC England took the lead and then chocked big time.

Yeah petty you don't get points for kicking the ball over the x-bar with an open goal beckoning. You would have had at least 2 points. It's football not rugby

Aussies did well, in the second half, they had at least 3 good chances to acore. Brazil for sure is not playing their best soccer and doing that will not get to the finals.

To have gone down only 2 - 0 is a testament to how just far Aussie soccer has come since its early days...other, more experienced teams have fared much worse against Brazil. The battle might've been lost but the war's not over....if Croatia could only manage a nil-all draw against Japan, we're still in with a chance, don'tcha think!

I think the Aussies were exceptional against Brazil, well done to them!! If they continue to play with such pace, heart, belief and enthusiasm, they could go a long way in this tournament. They played the kind of football that I would like to see England play.

In our league, if you touch the ball first...NO foul. It was easy to see in the replay he got to the ball and barely made contact with a great actor.
The yellow was for NOTHING, No Foul, NOTHING. There was a replay so that all could see (or not see in this case).
I'm of the belief when it comes to finals/championships the refs should stay out of the game unless it's flagrant/vicious or makes a difference in the score. Yellows should be after warnings and reds should be last resort. The referees should not be making a difference in the outcome or flow of the game based on player's acting abilities. They definitely should not be the deciding factor in a game, that's what the athletes are for. Several of the games have been more about playing the ref game instead of football.

One more comment on the state of the game and I'll get back to work.
In the US if your taken off the field on a stretcher you've either been knocked out or you've suffered a broken bone or worse.
I've seen it repeated over and over in WC games where a player takes a ride to the sideline only to jump off the stretcher and run back on the field. Makes me wanna puke. It used to be MENS soccer....it seems the actors have taken over.

My virtual money is on Argentina - I don't bet. As far as Brazil are concerned if they come across a team who actually believes they can win and will get really physical with them then Brazil will find it harder than all the pundits would have expected. If everyone they play think they wiil automatically lose against them they will. England chocked last World Cup.
T & T were great against England. Stuff Owen and Neville and keep with Rooney and Lennon. Much better methinks
