The problem here is a presumption [by you] that there was/is no permission for the image use.
With [for example] Stardock's Direct Skin program it's quite possible that you will see Skinners' works on proprietary software....

In my experience, many software developers do not have respect for the rights of icon artists. If I were Chaninja, I would contact them.

Also what Jafo said.

Also good to mention it for the guy who made these icons in case he doesn't know.
(Dunno if e-mailing the original author would help)Reply #5 Wednesday, June 7, 2006 12:52 PM
| Did you had Chaninja Style IP at the time you ran the program? Maybe it adopts whatever ip is on. |
*Very* good point Cyberworld, ..many programs do exactly that...
But, conspiracy theorys are just sooooo FUN!...LoL

I downloaded that program last night and, although there is a copyright notice (theirs), there is no information on the company or creators other then a company name. There is a contact link but, unless I was missing something, that is pretty much all they provided.
I actually wrote them as to whether they had permission or not, they haven't written back.

Sheeesh, I wonder how good the program can really be?...well, I suppose if they stole other similar program coding, like they stole the icons, the program is probably at least usable..LoL..
Ah well..TYCUS..go use a reputable program like Adaware, Spybot or Windows defender..at least their isons are original!..LoL

So are their iCons.
Sorry Double Zero, some opportunities are too good to let slip by.

Possibly...and possibly why TheGuyPC hasn't had a response in writing, as yet. The screws are still censoring the ingoing mail...and by the time they've censored the reply, an eternity will have passed.
Best not hold your breath, then, TheGuyPC...it'll be hazardous to your health.

Can anything be done about bootskin authors autographing works that they rip from the web and convert to bootskin. It's bad enough that anything and everything that is on the web gets turned into a bootskin but signing them as if they made the original wallpaper is JUST WRONG. Dontcha think?

Hey NT..LoL..I already started a thread about that...it lasted all of about an hour before it was removed..I guess thats why Tycus was practically begging for this thread not to be removed..LMAO
Pretty much a friggin Joke...

"Coverwork is usually *Very much copyrighted...especially fantasy artwork.. I may be wrong, and I apologize if I am..
But I really dont think so..LoL" [a quote from said thread.]
Any thread that posts links to works claiming they are ripped will generally be removed.
The forum is NOT a site for public witch-hunts of unsubstantiated allegation.
It's certainly NOT a joke to presume guilt, and the same goes for here in THIS thread.
Yes, it's 'possible' TYCUS exposed an 'issue'. It is ALSO possible this company was given [or bought] rights to use the images, etc.
IF you perceive a potential issue/drama ...email.
Firstly email the 'possible' victim...to determine the FACT...
Then email site admins, etc for assistance.
If you wonder about the effectiveness of such actions...you can ask treetog/Pixtudio [for one] whether he's had any success from peoples' input [such as mine].
But first, show a little discretion....or tact....

Re the 'added signatures' to an image/wall not original to the author.....used in Logons and/or bootskins .....
If you can clearly demonstrate that a wall image used is NOT the uploader's ....AND the name now emblazoned on it is definitely a different person [NOT 'just' a different name]....
Then perhaps these works should be removed until such time as the 'added' signatures are removed.
Signing a wall image that is not your own is not acceptable, not without specific singular consent from the author of the wall.
'singular specific' means 'per app'. ['yes, do what you like' is not good enough. 'I. fred nurk consent to you, joe blogs that you can sign your name on my XYZ wall' IS OK].
Reporting these, too NEEDS to be done via email....to limit collateral damage from people getting-it-wrong....

More twisting things around to meet your own agenda Jafo?
Your the only "Witch" I would be hunting, and that term isnt one I would choose to use, but it really ryhmes with my term.
I have completely had it with your BS politics, you and I both know where that thread originated from, too bad the rest of members wont ever understand until you do the very same to them.
Dont bother pulling any of my skins, ive done it for you, well except the 5 you seem to have an affection for, you can pull those yourself, you seem to already have a relationship with them...
It's funny how you seem to piss off almost every skinner and/or member thats been here for any length of time Jafo, and they end up doing the same thing I have done, pulling their work from the WC servers...no it isnt an opriginal idea at all, it's actually been happeneing quite alot, so much infact that WC is dead as far as decent skinners anymore, they have all went elsewhere..
as I am about to do..
Go ahead, exhibit one last time how "thick" your skin is by ignoring me, personally I think it's more your skull thats thick..
I will never support WC with one nickle of mine again...unless there are some extreme personel changes, which isnt very likely...
GO ahead, "Exile" me.."Ban" me..it should be obvious right now I could not give 2 shits less what you do..
