Scheduled Downtime

Server maintenance on Wednesday June 7th, 2006 3:00am EST

Monday, June 5, 2006 by Stardock Central | Discussion: WinCustomize News

On Wednesday June 7th, 2006 3:00am EST we will be taking most webservers off line wile we upgrade our primary database system. The outage is planned to last a minimum of 3 hours and it is possible that it could last longer.

Sites and services that will be affected are:

desktopgadgets.com
forums.stardock.com (all forum servers)
galciv1.com
galciv2.com
joeuser.com
politicalmachine.com
poweruser.tv
societygame.com
totalgaming.net
wincustomize.com (and WC Personal Pages)
xpthemes.com

Product Activation
Stardock Central
WinCustomize Browser
Blog Navigator
GalCiv 1 & 2 Metaverse Submissions

By moving the database to a new server and new software we hope to have a significant gain in performance on our websites that interact with the database (which is most sites). Where we hope to see the largest gain in performance will be with the initial page loads, logons and all forum based systems.

We apologize for the inconvenience but we hope that this update will improve your browsing experience on our websites.

What about for anyone who needs a Stardock or Wincustomize fix? Will IRC at irc.stardock.com still be around?

And not that anyone uses them much, but what about the newsserver at news.stardock.com?

Thanks for the heads up.

Do you think you'll have time to migrate the forum posts to the News server?

Good luck with the move. I'm always scared just to system restore or reformat; this must be nerve-wracking.
