The theme service needs to be turned off for WB

I don't think that is entirely accurate. I have no probs at all running Windowblinds with theme service still running.
It was my understanding that the entire "turning off the theme service" was purely a sales point.
I think it was something like... WB5 would use less memory with the theme svc off as opposed to standard luna with theme service running. (which I still refuse to swallow as I have disproved that repeatedly on my own system)...
Anyway.. David, your issues stem from a POS video card. Update it if at all possible.

By the way Po, that's a nice new avatar you have there!

Thanks.

I think for the proper help to be given, some system info would be useful. I originaly had 256mb of memory and an intergrated vid card which ate up some of that memory. Going with a 128mb vid card freed up my memory, I got a card that supported per pixel, and even added another 256mb to my memory (thanks to DZ) and it made all the difference in the world.

So, David, if you could post the system info from your WB Configuration window, it would surely help and end a lot of the debate, I'm sure.

Po'-- with the extra ram & improved graphics, it must have been like a new machine!

I didn't have an integrated card, but my card was old. It took up part of the ram load, but didn't have alpha per-pixel accelleration. Night Train passed along a card that wasn't up to his needs, but it's great for me. I didn't have slowing from WB before or after the new card, but I'm truely enjoying the full benefits.
Thanks again, NT!

I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X and I never have any problems other than once in a blue moon my cursor will go behind windows borders. But that seems to happen after playing a game. I never experience any slowdowns.

Threi,
The bias you speak of is not based upon the community here. It is based on real, proven trial by multitudes of experienced end users of products. WB is without question a far superior product to the alternative dll hack with a fancy front end.
It would serve you well to ponder this aspect before adventuring into the murky waters of which you are about to explore ( or give indication thereof).

David....I tried StyleXP before switching to Windowblinds and it is not as effective, certainly no faster. Your issue with slowness is most likely related to the video card, and an upgrade there would most likely resolve that.

Besides, StyleXP is limited in what it can do and doesn't have all the options of Windowblinds and Stardock's suite of programs.....

Absolutely!!!

And as far as StyleXp vs WindowBlinds...I only had to see one word which made me decide what I was going to use...hack. There are enough problems in pc's regarding .dll files...so why would anyone want to add to them?

Huh? Where does it say that? You should have an Nvidia Folder that would show your driver version listed...do you have one of them?

You would be far better off to use Windowblinds 4.5 instead of StyleXP, if you can't afford that new Graphics-Card. I am thinking Toolbaricons, Shell-Styles, Animations.....all things that StyleXP can't do but WindowBlinds 4.5 does!
