Some of you remember a couple months ago my plan to paint my computer. Why? I was bored, what else?

Before I started, I figured I'd try it on something not as expensive, and something that isn't my only lifeline to the world outside of school. So I picked my mp3 player, an Archos Gmini400.

I used ordinary acrylic paint, not some fancy computer paint or whatnot. So I painted some nice design on it, in my style which ends up fairly thick with paint. Then I tried to turn it on.

As you can guess, it didn't turn on. I opened it up, and somehow paint got inside. I now realize that I am an idiot. Not to mention that when I took it all apart, the wires connecting the battery to the main board thingy broke off easily. I blame that on the poor manufacturing of it, so I don't have to put all the blame on myself.

So obviously, I decided against putting a thick coat of paint on my computer. And now I'm in the market for a new mp3 player. Was thinking of that Creative one.

But first, someone gimme a few hundred dollars.

Wow!! Crappy luck, sorry to hear that! Is your computer a laptop or desktop? I think if it's a desktop it's easy enough to just remove all the components while you paint the case to keep a repeat from happening. If it's a laptop I think that is you are really careful to avoid painting over gaps in the case, and if you're going to be painting over the gaps maybe putting some tape over the gap will keep the paint out. There may even be some info online about what to be careful of when painting laptops..

Crappy luck!!!  Seems like he got what he deserved.  That would be like me doing something as stupid as painting one of my HDTV's.  I'am sure it would go teats up.  What a waste of money that would be.

If you really want to paint your computer you will first need to strip it.

I certainly would NOT entertain the idea of combining paint solvents with [somewhat] delicate electronics.

Though...you weren't 'quite' silly enough to be nominated for the Darwin Awards either...so it's a lose-lose situation...

Actually I have done this before and with spray paint of all things.... my suggestion... whatever you paint take EVERYTHING out of it first, to paint anything electronical with the stuff still inside is just pure stupidity (and with waterbased acrylic, come on)

As I am sure this is just a joke, nobody in their "right mind" would actually "paint" their pc or monitor or mp3 player, then this is really funny.... Thanks for the yuck, I needed it!

I know I have done some pretty goofy stuff posting in a thread, but this one "has to win a prize" Come on guys, does HE get a prize "not a few hundred dollars, either"?????

I spray painted my first mobile phone silver. It was an old Bosh which didn't ahve a replacable cover so I had to mask it of. It went fine actually. The phone worked just as good afterwards. Only problem was that the paint never dried so it kept staining my hand silver. Whooops!

As for painting a desktop case, it should be fine. With most cases you can remove the outer casing so you can safely paint it without risking getting paint inside it.

When you have a bunch of tubes of paint and your friends sleep for 18 hours a day, things are not going to go well.

I'm not motivated enough, and I'm not the type to plan ahead enough to take things apart before I paint. I just went for it, and luckily it was a somewhat old mp3 player that I destroyed.

My computer is a laptop. So even I'm not dumb enough to paint that. At least I hope not.

ive painted pc cases ..lap top cases as well.. even my old mp3 player.. but i knew enough to remove all circuitry as well as buttons and stuff....heck i even painted an old monitor case, but again i removed all the internal electronics....

LMAO!!! Now thats funny... Go well for the friends? or the PC??..LMAO

They do make paints that work on PC's and or components.. When I build my "Mod" I needed/wanted to use all black drives, well a card reader that I got with the MoBo just happened to be white, so I bought some black paint and painted it..works great and you cannot tell it was painted... Since my case is acyrllic (UV Green) black was the only color that went well with everything...

So dont listen to the "Morons" that hold their opinions that what you did was stupid, because it is just another form of being "creative" which doesnt always turn out the first time or two..LMAO..

I once painted a tower purple. It didn't work out so well, but in least I cleared out the computer parts first.

it ok to paint ur computer ive made over 7,000$ doing case mods and ive even went as far as painting my 57" television which is running fine for around 11 months here is some of the tutorials that got me started in learning to do case mods

After my Father retired, I guess from boredom he took to painting things red. You'd go into the basement and all his tools were red! He got bored with red then switched to blue.
