Microsoft Delays Vista Until 2007

"Microsoft revealed Tuesday afternoon what many had expected for months -- consumer availability of Windows Vista has been delayed until 2007.
While businesses would be able to get their hands on the finished product in November, consumers would not find the operating system on new machines until January. The delay also throws a wrench into the holiday marketing plans of many PC manufacturers this season."

Bad news for hardware makers. I am waiting until Vista to get a new PC too.

I know a lot of people that were waiting for Vista to come out before they purchase a new PC. They won't be happy to learn they'll have to wait even longer now!

Anyway, I too am waiting for Vista before I buy my new Alienware computer. I can't be in the tech business (and overall computer nerd/geek) and NOT get Vista somewhere within the second quarter of next year.
I can't wait to crash it!

Me thinks MS got this arse about face....pre Christmas = available cash, spending cash...
Post Christmas = broke, maxed out credit cards....no new OS's
Oh well, just gives me more time to save for it.

i agree with Sir Starkers.....
imagine if Sony said they were goin to wait til January to release the PS3.....it seems like the stoopidest thing to me...
and imagine the what the price will be? (oh bother)
and i agree with Wizop Island Dog.......maybe there will be more people with Xbox 360's this year or PS3's because i have my Vista money spent now....

It's very annoying. But I'd rather wait a little more to get a proper release than one that is too rished. I'ts allready two years late, I can wait anotehr two months. ...all though... I do want Vista now...

I'm not a "progammer" by any imagination. But does it really take 5+ years to develop a new operating system from a company that specializes in making operating systems? Or is M$ just over it's head in red tape? I'm being serious here. I really would like to know, from some of you who are programmers, if that just seems like an insane amount of time for development. Maybe I'm just to used to the amazing service I get from Stardock? Heck...you could build and entire city in 5 years.

It's late again SO! I still haven't found a good resaon to upgrade from XP Pro SP2 which is running extremely stable for me. They've spent five years for SFA, the interface (which by the way was ment to be upgraded before release) is just apaulling, it looks like they've just dumped the components needed on the screen and not arranged them in much order (throw IE7 in that boat as well).
Neowin have reported that the head of Office will transfer to Windows. Since office is currently on schedule, stable, has a new look which actually looks good and helps with program operation I think this is a good thing. The guy(s) in charge of Vista should be put in charge of updates to calc.exe where they can't do much damage. BUT THEN AGAIN I USE CALACULATER!!!
I'll upgrade at the next, mext release when there are quality new features and the interface is up to scratch

What makes microsoft think that businesses are going to upgrade to vista, a lot of companies still run windows 2000. So if they aren't going to upgrade to XP why would they upgrade to vista.

Doesn't prove that at all. I don't think IE7 sucks, but then again I have actually tried the software.

My XP Pro system is just humming right along, so I won't miss Vista but do plan to upgrade. My Pentium D 830 ought to be able to handle it! I would rather wait until they get it right before I spend big bucks on the OS than just to have it crash...
