AVG and Restart problems

Sunday, March 19, 2006 by Majic7 | Discussion: Personal Computing

For the last month and half I've been having freezes anytime I have to restart my computor for updates to Stardock products and others. It started when I uninstalled Learn2 Player and asked me to restart. Restarted and got AVG window, just a border no contents. Everything was frozen, moved the cursor to the task bar and it sat there cycling through a wait cycle. Went through a lot of stuff that I've since found to be unnecessary, including a blue screen, and got everything working. If I disable AVG before restarting everything goes as it should. If I forget I have to bring up task manager and end all AVG processes and restart again. Has anyone else ran into this?

Here is what I'm running.

AVG Free
Spybot
Ccleaner
Windows Defender
TweakNow Regcleaner Standard
Windows Firewall
AdAware

I've searched AVG and Microsoft forums for clues to any conflicts but haven't found anything pertinent

Sounds like that's where you should start looking for issues/hits in Google, etc...

I searched and searched and as far as I can tell I'm the only one in the world that ran into this problem after uninstalling Learn2 Player. Just hoping that someone knows something or maybe an idea about what I could have done to bring this upon myself. Never had a problem with AVG before, thought maybe I might have deleted something I shouldn't have with ccleaner or TweakNow. Or maybe Windows Defender, which I changed to at about the same time that the problem started might be conflicting. Just guessing and hoping for a clue before I start deleting programs and testing.

Wow M7, thought you had it all cleared up with that Learn2 thingy.
If everything is copacetic with AVG disabled at start....maybe uninstall AVG - reboot - use CCleaner to clear everything...then reinstall AVG. Maybe taking out L2 the hardway messed with AVG?

Bichur, I kept hoping that an AVG update would fix it. I've had a couple of program updates along with the daily virus updates, but no luck. Uninstalled and ran ccleaner, waiting for another Stardock update to see if it helps.

xSCORPx, tried downloading easycleaner but it wouldn't work. Downloaded from a link on Firefox Google but the exe. wouldn't work. Tried a link from IE that took me to ToniArts homepage but when I tried the freeware link it took me to a register page with a 20$ fee.

That didn't work. Guess I'll try out Avast.
