Interesting Problem...
VCP or some other cause?
Friday, February 17, 2006 by 72 metra | Discussion: Windows XP
Well.. I downloaded it and. Well after I opened the InstallWizard it closed down automaticly. Thereafter, new icons near my clock began to pop up downloading Toolbars/Adware. I was shocked. There was no way to cancel those.
I went to Add/Remove Programs and found out that in the list where only 12 programs originally were now is 59! Pure adware.
I was very mad, I tried to uninstall one of them but my system restarted. My LogOn screen failed and I couldn't get it for some odd reason. Thankfully I went into Safe Mode and was able to control some pieces of my "almost-dead" system. I went to JoeJoe.Biz and snapped there, cursing everyone and everything but then cooled down. I knew I was going to have to re-install Windows XP again but with no CD available.
I spent few hours now and removed almost everything except one called WChaker... It controls the Related Page program which constantly every 30 seconds sends me a pop-up ad. I removed other viruses by downloading two AntiVirus softwares and scanned my system using both of them at different times. That helped and I was able to restore my former Windows XP and was able to log in normally.
That one virus is still there... No way to remove it so far. The uninstaller that was "there" was a load of b/s and as you can see on screenshot it was just a failure. My system seems to run at same speed comparing to when I had all of that junk installed about 3 hours ago.
Now, what is the cause? I had never experienced anything like that until I downloaded VCPv3.0 and opened Setup.exe in the RAR file. I do not blame Masterhack or Aero for this as obviously this customization pack worked on other people's computers.
I followed all instructions and yet 10 seconds after download was complete the gates of hell opened. I am not sure if I will be able to remove that Ad-containing file but I know I will have to re-install in some near future.
If you have any comments or suggestions please leave a comment...

Also, you could do a websearch for a little app called "hijack this" ... it may just help to get rid of that last nasty...

Wreckless Eric, thanks but it didn't really help. That WCHacker's "Related" Page Toolbar/Adware Executor is not removable for now. grrrrr. i'm still searching though.

If you want the coolest stuff for your display, Go to Stardock and purchase WC and WB. Don't go where a drive by D/L will get you!
Glad that AAW fixed you up though. That and some expert advice from the Computer smart folks here.
