bootskin workaround

how i get it to work

Tuesday, February 7, 2006 by nitin singh | Discussion: OS Customization

When i first came across stardock products i was using stylexp but after using desktopx & wb the only os customization softwares i use are stardock products. However one product which i could not use for a long time was bootskin(i got the sane blue screen of death saying something about vidstub.sys error on reboot after installing & applying a boot screen).I had to use stylexp only to change bootscreen & i tried all bootskin versions but no effect.in the end i searched net for other such programs & came across inno logo by milosoft.I installed that program(shareware)& used it once to apply a new bootscreen logo & it worked.after that some time later i once again accidently used bootscreen to apply a bootscreen & imagine my surprice when it worked perfectly on reboot.I figured it out that it has something to do with changes inno logo made & i copied the modified bootini file(it has an extra command of milosoft now).a few days ago i formatted & reinstalled windowsxp sp1 & installed inno logo & then bootscreen & it is working well.Since i heard a lot about some bios & motherboards on which bootscreen can't be successfully used & i also used to get same blue screen of death so i thought it might work for others also.
P.S. i am using an old version of inno logo & they have updated it since then.if anyone interested i can upload mine on any filesharing site(about 4 mb i think it is).You don't even have to upgrade inno logo cause once it changed my bootini file i continued to use bootscreen even after trial period of inno logo is over.seems like as long as it is installed on my system i can use bootscreen.

Hmmm, interesting.. Is it the fact that inno logo is installed, or is it that entry that is made in the boot.ini? Try removing inno logo from your machine but make sure the boot.ini entry is not removed and then see if it still works. Unless the boot.ini entry points to a file that inno logo installs.

I've never had any problems with bootskin but if this actually works for more people that would be cool!

Do any AMD Athlon owners use stardock products? I have an AMD Athlon and I get problems with my desktop with all bootskin applications, cursorxp plus, and icon developer free.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ and I use lots of SD products. What problems do you get? You need to provide more info if you want help. Also, you might want to start a different thread for this discussion instead of hijacking this thread.
