Greetings dearest Bryan from Ottawa. . . What can I say--I'm just addicted to your magnificent creations! And this one is no exception. The vivid, rich color of royal blue is always a favorite of mine. Thank you for spoiling all of us with your wonderful and versatile windows creations. You never seem to run out of fresh and exciting ideas for making our desktops more inviting. I hope you are having a bright sunny day in Merry Ole England. My adoring late husband spent a great deal of his youth and college years in London, England. In fact, his brother and his wife still reside in London. Every Christmas from '91 to '96, John-Charles and I spent about six weeks not only in London, but also in Bala, Wales. I especially loved the Welch countryside and its people; and it's also where a number of my ancestors originated. In addition to visiting the Welch area, we always tried to make a trip or two to the beautiful city of Chester, England. That is such a beautiful, unique, and historical little city; and I never tired to returning there for our annual visits. The one place I would truly have loved to have visited was Lancaster, England. You see, my family was among the original settlers in Jamestown, Virginia. All of our townships and counties are named for our sister cities of England, as well as Scotland. Lancaster County, Virginia is surrounded by Northumberland, Westmoreland, Middlesex, and Matthews Counties. Some of our nearby townships/cities are Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedford, Gloucester, Yorktown, etc. There is so much history in our beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia; and I have always loved our relationship with the British Isles. My Grandmother's family was originally from an area near Kilmarnock, Scotland. Our town of Kilmarnock, Virginia has a very close relationship with its sister city in Scotland. Every year for the past 40, residents of Kilmarnock, Scotland visit our town of Kilmarnock for a week filled with parades and many other festive events. This event originally began as a one-day affair; and now it has grown to a week of fun-filled activities. Unfortunately, I've never been able to be visiting at the time these events are taking place; but I have managed to keep up with the occasions through our hometown paper. I've been a landed immigrant here in Ottawa, Ontario since 1994. Although it's a different city by name from Richmond, Virginia--where I spent all my adult years--both cities are almost identical in population, layout, etc. I don't really feel like I have ever left Virginia. So many of the surrounding townships and counties also have the same names as their sister cities of Virginia and England. You might say I've returned to my roots. My family was also among the Loyalists who made their way to Canada. Although I had every intention of researching our genealogy here in Canada, my health has kept me from working on this delightful project. I was able to locate some information the few times I did visit our library and found that our family name showed up in Nova Scotia. I would truly love to search the ships' manifests of yesteryear and see what they reveal. And now that the Archives in London, England have put all their files on the web, I'd love to read some of their ships' manifests. Even if I don't complete the research of our family (which my cousin did for a number of years), reading the events of that era is so interesting. I've always regretted not visiting the Archives during our annual visits to London; but time had a way of disappearing all too rapidly during our stay. Well, Sweetie, I didn't mean for this to be a history lesson--or a novel; but sometimes I do get a bit carried away with my writing. I always enjoy meeting and chatting with individuals from England, Ireland, and Scotland. It helps to bring back so many of the beautiful memories which my darling John-Charles and I shared during our annual Christmas trips, as well as our annual trips to other parts of Europe during 1997 through 2001. Oh how much I would love to revisit some of the beautiful townships and cities that the two of us enjoyed so much (i.e. Venice, Italy--where he was born; Abino, Italy with its delightful mud baths; Vienna, Austria; and last, but not least--Prague--our favorite of all. We never tired of visiting this historical city of music. I just feel so truly blessed and fortunate we were able to share these fascinating cities, their people, and their culture during the very short and precious time we had together. Once again, dearest Bryan, thank you for all the lovelies. Luv ya! Sweet Caroline Luv ya! Sweet Caroline
