If this widget is a sign of things to come with DX 3, we are in for a real treat. Nice work.

The only "problem" I am having is when I disconnect from the internet. When I reconnect it doesn't seem to "notice". I have to restart the widget completely to get it to update.

Island Dog, does it pick up again if you click on the gmail icon in the top corner?

No it doesn't. I have to completely restart the widget while I am connected for it to update. I am on dial-up, so I have to disconnect sometimes. This is one of my favorites I would appreciate any help.

I am having the same problem as Island Dog.
Once it gets set to 'Internet not detected!' it doesn't seem to ever re-try and notice the connection.

Where is the password and user name stored? Is it stored in a object.persiststorage thingy? Not in a plain text file? Also, is the password sent anywhere else than gmail's servers? I am not worried about security and privacy.

Problem I'm having is that it shows that I have merely 20 new emails. I have about 1900. Anyone have any thoughts?
Comment #12 Friday, March 18, 2005 3:57 AM
Peregrin Took - the password is store in the widget's cache in plain text (xml), the password is only sent to Gmail via your browser (i.e. as again this is sent as plain text.

Tryzub - There is a limit on the number of emails Gmail's atom feed will show - 20 is the maximum. I was hoping to use my POP3/IMAP widget to check Gmail (via POP3 access) but it can't be done yet...?

56K users, I'll look into why its doing that and see if I can fix it for you

Excellent and very well working widget!
Comment #14 Wednesday, March 23, 2005 8:16 AM
This doesn't work behind a proxy?
Comment #15 Wednesday, March 23, 2005 10:34 AM
It should do, there is a random number added to the end of the atom feed URL to prevent caching.

Sorry I've not updated this, or made a normal email widget, but work is very hectic at the moment and I'm busy playing with my Mac mini at home.

Update 24th March 2005
Fix for when the Widget gets stuck in the Internet not detected! state. Dial up modem users rejoice!

Thank you!

I really like this program, but in the past couple of days...all I get is 0 messages. Did Gmail make some changes? It worked great until about five days ago. Thanks for your great work.

Gmail have changed the way the atom feed works. They've added the ability to view new messages based on your own labels. I don't think I'll add this function to the widget, but I'll update this widget in due course so it actually works.

In the mean time there is a very good Gmail object that does work by Byron Todd
