I love art school...

If any of you are in, or have gone to art school, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Today in my drawing class, we have an unbelievably gorgeous model. For three hours. Everything about her was perfect. This poses a problem however: after you're drawing something for long enough, it essentially becomes furniture. And if you try to concentrate on how attractive she is, it is very distracting. Plus, she kept looking at me with one of those sexy half-smiles. Either way, I did some pretty nice drawings, and it was a good way to spend my Monday afternoon.

Don't know why I posted this here, but I wanted to tell someone.

That's why it's a reality that life-drawing models are never paid what they're really worth....putting up with some adolescent pre-occupied with their appearance, rather than their form.

I did my life drawing 34 years ago....in Architecture's Fine Art subject.  [back then my 'beanie' was used to pass-around for a collection to help eke out the models' wages....normally about $3 per hour]....

I take offence at that. It's not a pre occupation with appearance. I don't think you can observe form with out observing appearance. As I said, most of the time, the model or the still life or the whatever ends up as 'furniture.' But why not admire a beauty?

Models make pretty good money at my school. I think it's $8-12 an hour, depending on how long they've been doing it. The model today told me she usually works 8AM-6PM, so I don't think they have much to complain about.
