Help with Desktop Pet
lil fella keeps hidin' on me
Thursday, January 12, 2006 by starkers | Discussion: Stardock Support General
I've disabled script blocking, etc, but that has made no difference. I installed originally via the email download link and activated normally with serial no, etc, but had to uninstall and reboot as it would not remain on screen.
I then reinstalled via SDC (twice) but with the same result, even with script blocking disabled, the pet won't stay on screen beyond 10 -20 seconds.
If somebody would be so kind as to help me remove him from the cave he's preferring to hide in at present, and bring him back on screen as is supposed to be, I'd be most appreciative. TIA.

Are the pet toys off screen? Ball, food, medicine, bed, butterfly, outhouse?
Everything disappears off screen...and as for keeping my cursor out of his eye, he don't stick around long enough. Neither does any of the other stuff, so I can't even check to see if he's got enough toilet paper
put some clothes on, you're scaring the little guy
Did that too, even put on a 'fur coat' to help make him feel more at home....no go.
Being that it's a similar concept to Aquarium Desktop, and I have no problems with it, I'm just wondering if I got an off download and need to clear a cache or something to begin completely from scratch, as 4 seperate D/L's have not resolved the issue as yet?

Would be nice, tho, if somebody had a real clue as to why he's so darned shy/timid to appear for more than a few seconds.
Fiddled with it some more...still none the wiser

Do you have any app 'hiding' desktop icons or use the WinKey to show/hide the Desktop?Reply #8 Saturday, January 14, 2006 11:12 PM

No, I have no apps to hide/show any desktop items..nor do I use the WinKey, so I do not think it's related to that somehow. Also, I only use a single monitor, so I am not experiencing the non-support issue there.
When installing, an installation window appears to prompt in which folder the Pet should be placed. The prompt recommends the Gadgets Folder in the main Stardock folder, but I also have a gadgets folder within ObjectDesktop and wonder if changing installation folders may help...perhaps even just to install into the main SD folder as a separate unit/entity, etc. I dunno
Maybe your wallpaper doesn't suit him
Don't think that's the issue, either....changed it to a pic of Gizmo..no go! Changed it to a pic of a (clothed) female furry critter...no go. Then I thought, a naked pic of Angelina Jolie has gotta do the trick....little bugger's still refusing to come out to play.
And for anyone who gets a notion that I've got a thing for Angelina Jolie...a sudden and intense dislike of Brad Pitt doesn't prove a thing, and as fer nude piccies of her...(sadly) I don't have any

Worked briefly...but then they both disappeared, and judging from the sounds (not Muted), thay is awfully busy and ain't comin'out agin fer a while.
Sent off an email to Stardock support and am awaiting a reply with, hopefully, a fix.

starkers - when you right click on your desktop, does the menu show?
Sure does, where it remains until I left click to remove it, if that's any help.

If you run IconX and not DekstopX this problem appears. Try the following: unload IconX and Desktop Pet then load the Desktop and after that IconX.
It would seem that was the problem, having taken your advice it appears to be working properly....thank you ever so much, my wife is thrilled at long last to see the lil fella up close and personal.

Wish I had more help. My pet likes me and stays where I can see him.
