How to customize colors?

Sunday, December 18, 2005 by Technologen | Discussion: Suites

Hi! I'm using StyleXP and the Panther (MAC) theme. I'd like to change the default colour of how the active window is displayed in the taskbar. Right now it shows it as blue, but I'd like to change that to grey, but keep all other colours intact. I have Stardock SkinStudio Professional, and I've tried to change the colour through that program. (I edited pantherTaskBandToolbarBtn.bmp) and saved the changes, but there seem to be no effects, it's still blue. I've also tried to load the visual style once again, but no result.

What am I doing wrong, and how do I do it right?

Thanks in advance.

Skin Studio is for WindowBlind skins not StyleXP, if you have converted it to edit it you now have a WB skin which can't be converted back to msstyle for StyleXP.
I think if you went to folder for skin open image in graphics software, change color and save it back you will get what you want.
Side note: You do know that StyleXP hacks your system and violates Microsoft EULA.

No, I didn't have any clue about that actually. How does it violate the EULA? Is it possible to use a .msstyles theme with WindowBlinds? That is : The themes and settings I have with StyleXP, are they possible to apply to WinXP using WindowBlinds?

It violates EULA because it hacks your system. msstyle skins can be converted with SkinStudio to WindowBlinds skins.
That is the greatest advantage of WindowBlinds, can use skins made for WB and all the msstyle skins out there by converting them. WB is more advanced than msstyle, much more of the GUI is skinned. StyleXP can only use msstyle, WB skins can't be converted to msstyle.

It sounds like you were on the right track. The image you were playing with is the correct image to edit. Unless you mean the Flashing taskbar button. That is a different image.
On the image you already edited, you need to edit the 5th image in the strip as that is the active state.

Alright. But hey, doesn't WB do the same thing? Or how is it else able to alter all the things in my system?

No, basicly it waits outside and hooks onto GUI painting info.

Okey. But doesn't that make WB faaar slower than styleXP? I mean, mustn't it drain loads of resources from the OS/CPU?
