Please help -- newbie with font issue...

Sunday, December 4, 2005 by BlueLunalass | Discussion: New Users

I have been an Object Desktop user and WinCustomize subscriber for almost a year now, but this is the first time I've tried to do anything "under the hood." I'm using the wonderful WB "Christmas Time" by mormegil, but I'd like to change the font which displays icon names. Please help...thanks in advance!

Hmm...maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, but I still can't figure this out. In WB's user overrides, I see a pop-up for adjusting the _size_ of the font, and something saying "All skin defined fonts to be replaced by:". This second item seems, at least in the case of the Christmas Time skin, to affect the font on buttons but not the font used under icons. Am I right in thinking I'll have to modify the WB skin? If so, how do I do this? Thanks!

For that skin must be done in SkinStudio as fonts for toolbar buttons are not defined in it.
In SkinStudio, Explorer tree, Controls, Toolbar, Toolbar Buttons, on left section tab Fonts.
This is assuming you mean the toolbar icons, back, forward etc, and not the desktop icons. The
reason I say this is since the fonts are not defined, none of the toolbar fonts, buttons or toolbar icons, will change with settings in user overrides as you seem to think they may have.

Thanks for your patience with me, folks. I'm looking to change the font for the desktop icons. I did the experiment of changing the font with the "All skin defined fonts to be replaced by:" choice, and the font changed in the button controls and window titles (and not the desktop). So to do this for desktop icons, looks like I'll have to use SkinStudio then? Would someone like to try walking me through this?

Desktop icons are not changed/controlled by WB or SkinStudio.
Right click on desktop, Properties, Appearance, Advanced, Other Advanced Controls, you now have Windows Advanced options, in Item list select Icons, here you can change font, font size and icon size for desktop icons. Make changes click OK, then on main properties dialog click apply.

Duh! I looked through the desktop properties before, but I didn't manage to dig that far down into it. Thanks so much, Apprentice! Now to decide on a good font to go with Christmas Time...
