update upload

Thursday, December 1, 2005 by AmeSolaire | Discussion: WinCustomize Site Issues

Is there a way when uploading an update to request that it should not show up on top of the list of skins in the respective skin category, but stay in its place as if it was not updated.
Here's the thing - I have this little unimportant docklet. From time to time it occurs to me that I can improve this or that or I should fix some obscure bug. I cannot afford to spend too much time on it, usually up to a (very) few hours a week, so I cannot have it updated enough in a week to make it worthwhile to be downloaded again, but I want whoever downloads it for the first time to have the newest possible version. I'm using a week as a time frame because it gets downloaded up to several hundred times in a week. I don't want my silly docklet to stick in the face of people who have already downloaded it every time they check for new docklets, it's annoying, and the more seasoned among them will definitely assume that I'm just DL-stats-whoring. I don't want to annoy people, I care about these things.
Furthermore it would be nice to be able to update just the description of the skin (docklet) without it reappearing on top of the list. Right now I want to add in the description that I'd like people to comment on the effect that I added, but I'm not sure what will happen if I change just the text, while the file stays the same.

Thanks

Do not check; Check to reset Update Date. Only check this is your skin has a major update.
It should then stay where it is.

Actually it doesn't stay where it is even if I don't check the reset Update Date. I didn't check it the last time but it still reappeared on top. This is precisely why I'm asking this question. Thanks for the quick response though. Any other options? Or could it be a site issue (bug)?

I don't have an answer, but would like to say that it's refreshing to hear of someone who wants to put the best out, but does not want it at the 'top of the list' every time. If the world were full of people with that attitude it would be a better place.

Thanks, Sleeping Dragon. I appreciate your comment. It's always good to be reassured that there are like-minded people out there. Many of the uploaders have probably asked (themselves) this question, but I couldn't find such a thread in the forums. It's quite possible that I haven't been looking hard enough, though..

Chere and I were wondering the same thing because we don't want to come across as a couple of little pigs even if we do live on a farm. We just uploaded the wrong preview image on the Halloween Tree. No big deal though we did enjoy the comments on this one as we were looking for the same info.
