crashes in cache.dll

Thursday, November 17, 2005 by dboniuk | Discussion: IconPackager

Any time I try to rebuild the icon cache, it starts and then crashes in cache.dll. It will also crash if I try to repair icons. Sometimes it even crashes partway through installing a package, though the package does in fact install.
It has done this with the last few versions.

Any clues?

TIA

Which version of IconPackager and Windows (including service packs) are you running?

I'm seeing problems in this area too. I'm running the latest beta, and whenever I try to save a package it crashes. I deinstalled IconPackager and it gave me an error message about cache.dll. I noticed that Tivo desktop also uses a file called cache.dll. Could there be a conflict?

I tried the trial version of the iconpackager and all it did was give me the cache.dll error and kept doing it when I tried to uninstall, my frustration is mounting as all I want is a good icon management and changing program, there doesnt seem to be one for any price.

Not sure if this is related, but...
I use Litestep and if I change icons via IconPackager [or upgrade], Windows Explorer doesn't start. The process does, but the application does not.
Sometimes uninstalling/re-installing IP cures this, other times not.
Tried going back to Explorer shell and doing the same - again hit and miss whether it works or not.
Damned frustrating.
The thing is when it works, all the icons are correct and all is as it should be, but an upgrade or icon change really screws it up.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received...
