What would be the best way to go about getting persmission from someone to whom a skin belongs, that I might have ported?

You can just take the bus,then the train,then maybe a fairy boat,then an aeroplane....in severe situations you might need a spacectafy too! 
Just kidding scorpio logic... 
E-mail as already said is the best way. Also via MSN or Yahoo or any other messenger if you know the author...

Hey, I know of somebody who has a couple of redundant carrier pigeons that could use the work ....if that's of any help....ie: the net's down and the snow's too deep for snail mail to get through....it'd be quids cheaper than the airfare

Okay. I got it. Leave message in said author's comments and send an email. Gotcha! I'll not be inviting anyone for a feast, I am to poor, alas. Of course, the carrier pigeons might come in handy in such a case.

well i can say, hunting them down and sitting on their porch singing showtunes while wearing a tutu, is prolly not the best way...
but emailing them and hoping like heck ya get a "yes" .. is prolly the best way

well i can say, hunting them down and sitting on their porch singing showtunes while wearing a tutu, is prolly not the best way...
but emailing them and hoping like heck ya get a "yes" .. is prolly the best way

Ahaaaa! So that's who it was, doing Swan Lake and singing: "The hills are alive....to the sound of muuuusic, on my neighbour's verandah the other evening.
Tip.....wear a longer tutu, with those lily white legs, we didn't need the moon to light up the night
