New Stardock Central Broken

Thursday, November 3, 2005 by Marauder1024 | Discussion: Object Desktop

I just installed the new version of Stardock Central, big mistake. I am unable to update to the new WindowBlinds 5 Beta, or do much of anything else for that matter.

After first updating I got an error stating that it could not log in (had been fine before the update). I go verify the account name and reenter the password and it logs in, but upon trying to update WindowBlinds 5 I get an error, within the log it says "Serial: ERROR".

I check in the settings and it lost my serial for both Object Desktop and Think Desk. It seemed to allow me to reenter the serial for OD, but I get an error saying that "The email address you have entered does not match our records". In addition, when I try to "look up serial" I get an error stating that the email address cannot be found.

After a reboot, Stardock Central is once again unable to log in. It claims to allow me to register my serial number for ThinkDesk, but looking at list of applications for both of them in SD Central, it appears as if it does NOT think I'm registered as both have the shareware versions for download.

ARGH. So far I am not impressed with this update, it seems to break everything.

If you're having trouble updating apps with Stardock Central, please close out of Stardock Central, download this file and extract it to your "C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral" directory. We apologize for your trouble.

Mike, I finally just uninstalled both betas - WB and SS - and then reinstalled, all within SDC. That seemed to get it working.

What's the fix you posted? Will I still need to run that too?

BTW - OT a little for this thread: Your Arrow skin is working differently with the fonts on my notebook and desktop PCs. Notebook looks fine. Desktop shows all fonts as dark on dark in all menus. Both are running XP Pro SP2. I went section by section through the WB5 settings and it appears they are identical, so it must be a setting applied elsewhere. I had previously uninstalled the WindowsFX beta from both, so it shouldn't be that.

Have you seen this? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I downloaded the zip file and now I can update again, but now every time I start SDCentral, it tries to download a newer version (2.19[b].128, build 97). It apparently doesnt succeed (no complaints as the new version is broken).

Is this what is supposed to happen or is something screwy going on here?

That's how it should be. The zip file downgraded your version of SDC, so now when you start it, it sees the update again and asks if you want to upgrade.
