Newest stardock central upgrade crashes every time.

Wednesday, November 2, 2005 by NetBadger | Discussion: Stardock Support General

I have automatic update notification turned on. A few minutes ago it told me there was a new version of stardock central, do you want to download? I said yes as always, and it installed. Then it told me there was a new beta version of windowblinds and skin studio. It started to download them and then crashed. Now every time I open stardock central to try to roll back, or finish the downloads it crashes. I seem to be stuck in a catch22 position. I can't roll back any applications or download new ones to fix the problem.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

p.s. Now it also says it can't verify my registration info. I've been an object desktop customer for three years at least, probably more.

You might make sure that your firewall isn't blocking SDC. You could also try a clean install of SDC. You would have to make a copy of your themes, etc and place them somewhere that is easily remembered and found.

I wasn't able to update the newest Windowblinds or SkinStudio after updating Stardock Central at first (install would fail) -- I uninstalled my current versions of WB and SS and then installed the updates and it worked for me...it could be worth a try.

Same here...had to uninstall first for the install to complete.

I followed the same path as all of you. Uninstalled SDC, and did a clean install. It went through this time, but every time I try to install a package, I get this error message:
There was an error installing SkinStudio Prefesional [Beta]. The following error occurred:
Load: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\installed\sp.xml 0 (file not found)
Result: Instalation failed (0)
Would you like to view the installation log file?

This happens no matter what application I try to load.

Thanks for the help!

Don't always have to do a reinstall of SDC if it or the update to glitches.
C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral - double click the restore shortcut to restore SDC to the earlier version.

I didn't uninstall SDC, I uninstalled the current version of the program I wanted to upgrade (WB5 & Skinstudio) before running it's install. I have the latest SDC and used it for the upgrades.

Problem solved. I had to go in and uninstall each appplication, and then re-install each one. That seems to have fixed everything.

Well, maybe this thread can help some else.

The update of Stardock central doesn't crash on me, but to download and intall the updates to WindowBlinds and SkinStudio, I had to first unintall them. Other than that everything works as it's supposed to.

Noticed a little more clutter on my taskbar.....'tis nice to have the tray icon back.

This isn't a firewall issue - same thing is suddenly happening to too many users. Bad SDC update.

Any fix yet?

If you're having trouble updating apps with Stardock Central, please close out of Stardock Central, download this file and extract it to your
"C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral" directory. We apologize for your trouble.

Download what file?

I didn't, and haven't, had a problem since the very first WB5 beta. All cumulative updates have installed perfectly on my system. So, naturally, I don't understand what it is that is causing problems.

AMD Sempron 2800+ (OC'd from 1.6 ghz to 2.1 Ghz)
1 gig 3200 DDR SDRAM (stable with OC)
Win XP Home SP2
43 processes running at idle
nVidia GeForce FX 5500 graphic card (OC'd from 250 & 400 to 300 & 500 mem/core=stable)

I am running WC tray component, Windowblinds, Sysmetrix (not part of the Stardock line), CursorXP (public).

I don't know...wish I could help.
