Silica RSS questions, suggestions, and help
Monday, October 31, 2005 by hotrod11 | Discussion: Widget Ideas
I've just started using the Silica RSS widget, and I like it. But it changes back to CNET News from the Yahoo News after about 1 hour. I've tried turning it off and deleting the Widget Cache for Silica RSS in my Local Settings folder and restarting, but again, after approximately one hour after use it changes back to CNET. Is this normal?
SUGGESTIONS:
I've tried some of the other RSS widgets here at Wincustomize, but most of them are either programmed for one specific news site or you must know the RSS url and enter it manually to customize it. I really like Silica's menu of feeds. So I can browse News, without knowing and manually copying or typing different urls.
BUT, here's some suggestions that could improve the Silica RSS widget.
1. Ability to have buttons or tabs to quickly load your favorite news feeds, rather than Right Click>Pull Down Type>Pull Down Source>Load. It would be easier to have a button on the widget to switch to different customized feeds.
2. Ability to change size of the widget by dragging.
3. Ability to change the size, shape and color of the font.
4. Maybe the ability to choose which browser get's opened. (I know I can do this my changing default browser but mine is a shared system with different browsers)
Thanks for any help and comments you can offer. And if there's another gadget or news feeder like silica RSS, I'd like to know about it.

I think he's got you there, Mike. It is a widget that's distributed with DesktopX.

Good point...sorry for not looking into this sooner! I will attempt to reproduce your problem and track down and contact the author of this widget. I apologize for my mistake.
If you have any additional information you could provide (ie anything you might do that could help reproduce the problem) it would really help.

I've been running the widget since my last post and I haven't been able to reproduce your problem. Has it ever worked for you? Are you using the "Yahoo! News" under "World News"
