Icon Packager problem

A while back I downloaded the freeware version of Iconpackager. Today I decided that I wanted to revert back to my original icons because my trial period had expired. When I changed it back not all of the icons changed to what they were originally. Most of the icons like "My Computer" and other such icons went back to the way they were. However, the icon for .doc files didn't go back to what it was. Now the picture is for wordpad or something. What I want to know is first how to change it back to the way it was. Do I need to download icon packager again? Thanks for the help!

Did you already uninstall it? If not, try the rebuild/restore options.

Also maybe, if you right click on the doc file and go into properties, icon, do you get an option to change back to the default?

Since my trial period expired already it won't let me do anything with icon packager. It has the option there to change the icon to the correct setting but whenever I try to change it, it tells me I have to register and buy a copy of iconpackager. Is there maybe a way to work around iconpackager to make it do what I want?

right click the doc icon, properties, icon tab - pull down the arrow next to current icon and put it on the shell32, then click change and the window with default icons should open

I tried that and it all works the way you say. However, when I try to apply or click ok a splash screen comes up and tells me I need to buy iconpackager. I cancel the screen but it won't apply the changes that I make. Any ideas? Thanks for the help

have you tried just uninstalling it?

If the uninstall hangs up then see if this works: Link. When you run it, you should be able to select the OD component you want completely uninstalled.

This issue has been reported, and will hopefully be addressed in the future.

It may be due to the fact that not all users have (or use) Word, and the default program for a ".doc" document in Windows XP is WordPad - the file is restored from the "\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\WordPad" executible.

To fix this issue, as well as any other icons that may show a similar issue, you can do the following:

Open "My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types tab > highlight the "DOC" listing > click the "Advanced button" > click the "Change Icon" button > navigate to the Word executible file (for Office XP, it is found in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10" folder > select the Word executible file and you will be presented with the icons contained in that file (the correct icon should be automatically selected) > click "OK" until you are back at the "File Types" tab, and then click "Apply".

That should do it.

The utility should not do anything bad, it will either remove the program, or not show the program under either "unload" or "uninstall" if the program is already removed.

I thought the shareware did not expire. I've never heard of a "trial period" with SD's stuff.

It has been a 30 day trial for a bit (somewhere around the release of V3).
