How do I remove widgets?

Sunday, October 16, 2005 by stevensw11 | Discussion: OS Customization

Hi

I installed a few of the Omni widgets but they won't shut down when I attempt to close them. Is there another way I can get rid of them? I would like to completely remove them from my desktop...thanks in advance!

If you cant find them to shut them down..just ctrl/alt/del and you will be able to end task each one there. But normally just right clicking on widget itself and click on " close" it will shut down until you open it again..hitting " hide" only puts it to task bar.

You can use Task Manager (as mentioned by Fairyy), which you can invoke directly by hitting "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" > click the Processes tab > select any "widget.exe" listing > click "End Task" button for each.

After killing the widgets, unload DesktopX if it is running and clear the widget cache by deleting the Widget Cache folder found in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\DesktopX" folder.

For instructions on clearing the cache, you can see my mini tutorial here http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?SID=5463&AID=82461
