Strange software conflict..I think

Internt locking up

Monday, October 10, 2005 by tonystall | Discussion: Websites

Has anyone had a problem with web surfing after installing the object desktop programs? Internet Explorer still loads, but then I'm usually limited to one page before it locks up. For instance, my hotmail account will load and show my e-mails, but clicking on them does nothing. I can select all of them by placing a check in each box, but clicking "delete" or any other function has no effect. The same type thing happens on every site I've tried. Has anybody heard of this or can anyone tell me how to fix it? tonystall

For some reason your problem kinda says spyware, browser hijacker to me but I'm starting to run down so I'm not thinking straight. Getting late here on the east coast. Gonna wander off to lala land. Good luck resolving your IE problems Bichur.

Not yet you're not.........

Go to the Microsoft update site...you're looking for the msinstaller update. Check the 'installed updates' and see if it was ever installed. You do have SP2 installed, correct?

MS windows installer 3.1 = apr 12 2005
MS windows installer 3.1 = may 20 2005

that's the 2 most current showing - no failed updates since august (reinstalled sp2)

One of two things is going on; SP2 got spanked and you need to re-install it or Lantec is corrrect and there's an ugly in your system (in which case you may want to rent that tractor again).

gotta be a sneaky ugly = MS antispy,pc-cillin,spybot,adaware,webroot,spywareblaster (which was a little out of date, now updated with 143 more items).

ran both antispy and pc cillin spyware and webroot yesterday. will updated them all again and rerun and the probably re install sp2 tomorrow.

BITS is still updating and FireFox lets me browse in new tabs so it's not all bad yet.

if it doesn't work after reinstall, i'll be posting another need computer whiz help.

thanks yrag.

when's tonystall coming back so we can see if his got fixed?

and i had so much fun, i want to buy a tractor.

If it let's you re-install SP2, then I would think that will fix it. If it won't let you re-install or still doesn't fix it, then a repair might do it (doubtful...but it might). If something really is embedded in your system with all that running.....well..............a fresh install is probably the most time efficient. Let us know.....
