Can only control secondary for few seconds

While I had some problems with earlier versions of mulitplicity, version 1.02 seemed to work good until about 5 months ago. The cursor will readily go from the primary screen (right screen) to the secondary screen (left screen) but after about 2 to 5 seconds the cursor moves back to the primary in the upper right hand corner. I have the alert box feature on to tell me what screen the keyboard and mouse are controlling. When I switch to the secondary machine it indicates that I'm controlling the secondary machine from the primary console. When the switch back to the primary occurs the alert box disappears as if I had switched manuall. There is virtually no traffic on the network. Ping times are less than 1 msec. I've tried using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse to the edge of the screen with the same results. I've seen some suggestions to turn off clipboard sharing. I'm not sure how to do this and I wouldn't want to do it except for trouble shooting as this is a valuable feature.

Any help will be appreciated.

Which version of windows are you running on your machines (including service packs)? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the product?

Thanks for responding. Here is the additional information:
1. Win XP service pack 2 - all updates current
2. I've uninstalled and reinstalled on both computers.
3. I'm using a two monitorn configuration on the master and of course the laptop only has 1 display.
Does this help?

What ever is your problem I have the same one and I have the same setup as you. I can't figure this out at all but what a pain

Is this a consistent issue? To disable clipboard sharing, please double-click the multiplicity icon in your system tray, and click the "interface" tab.  At the bottom of that page, uncheck "Enable clipboard sharing."  By disabling this, you can at least see if this what was causing the problem. If so, it will help in narrowing down the problem.

It is a consistent issue. It happens all of the time. I disabled clipboard sharing and the the problem remains. I updated both machines to 1.02.006, unloaded stardock on both and restarted to ensure the latest version was active with clipboard sharing disabled and still the problem remains. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue - but am using 1.02 *Test* mode, I am looking for *EXACTLY* this sort of program, but i need stability... If this can be solved without me reformatting my machines, I will purchase for sure!


Clipboard sharing is off:


I've tried changing the port, It won't connect (says "Cannot connect.. blah blah firewall {none exist between us})

Did anyone find a solution for this problem? I just downloaded the trial as I need this exact kind of software but i can't get it to work - I have also tried disabling clipoard sharing and it still does not work, icon disappears. If this can be resolved i will buy immedietley...thanks!

I am having a similar problem, except for the folowing differences:


Initially, everything worked perfectly.  Now after a restart on both machines, I am finding that Multiplicity unloads itself whenever I attempt to move the mouse to the secondary machine.  The secondary machine appears to work fine, however, the icons show there is a connection, even when there is not.  To get around this, now I have activated the scroll lock function to switch between screens, however, whenever I accidentally cross the mouse to the secondary machine, wah lah, it unloads itself again.


Quite a pain, I wish it could be solved, because again, I would be a guaranteed buyer.

It seems download.com are still hosting an old build which expired on the 1st January.  We have a new build which was done in December, but for some reason its not been updated on their server.

Hopefully this will be resolved later today.

I've got exactly the same problas everybody above It was working fine then suddenly went all belly up and I can't control my second PC. I went to download the "new" version but it still says it was added back in July. Can anyone confirm if the newer version is available to download yet, and if so where???????

It looks like the buying the pro version fixes the problem. And the pro version rocks! 3+ computers, file copy. What more can you ask for? [I know, I know, Linux and Mac support. ]

I'm getting this problem, too. Is there any solution?

I had the pro version 1.01, now I downloaded the trial version 1.03 and both have the above problem.

(Another question is how do I upgrade to pro 1.03?)

I'm not going to buy Pro 1.03, when I have Pro 1.01 and the trial 1.03 doesn't solve the issue. Is there any tech support other than this board?

Is this product still supported in any way?

To upgrade to the latest build of MP, you use support webpage which e-mails you your serial numbers again.  Or you can do it via SDCentral.

There is a newer internal build with some additional tweaks based on feedback from some customers who for some reason have random disconnects (I.e. not every X seconds) and I hope this will be put out as a beta in the coming week.

If your disconnects follow a pattern of every X seconds, it is most likely the secondary machine was not upgraded correctly from earlier builds.  In which case uninstalling MP from the PC, rebooting, deleting any files left (should be none) and then reinstalling MP may help.

I have been experiening this problem as well and I believe I had discovered the reason (at least in my scenario - my configuration is a little different but the problems experienced were the same).


I am running Windows Server 2003 on my primary machine and XP Professional on my secondary machine running version 1.01.  I use my primary machine as a terminal server as well and found that this problem would manifest itself whenever I was running a terminal session.  In these sessions, I noticed that Multiplicity was running as well and was confusing Multiplicity.  After closing (i.e. logging out of) the terminal sessions, the problem goes away.


While this configuration is a bit different, I know some of the terminal services subsystem is used in Windows XP (e.g. secondary logins) so it might help point others to the cause of their problem.
