IconPackager crashing...

Earlier this evening I downloaded an icon package. For what ever reason, when I double clicked it (expecting it to install) Icon Developer tried to open it instead. Since then IconPackager refuses to stay open, making a brief appearence on screen. It was working fine yesterday   I've gone to previous versions, uninstalled/re-installed, reset file associations etc etc with no joy. Anyone got any ideas?

As a last resort I'll restore my system from back-up, sigh...

Hey Fuzzy, I had icon packs trying to be opened by Icon Developer, had to use odnt zapper to get rid of it then got rid of IP and reinstalled with SDC to get icon packs associated with IP again.

Icon Developer > Tools > Preferences > File types category > default button > Apply?

Nothing worked, so I restored from back-up. Problem solved.

Note to self: Install packages from within IconPackager, do not click the package...

I'm having the same problem, but when I tried your solution, I still had the problem. And I was installing from IconPackager. Very frustrating.
Any ideas?

If you can't get Icon Packager to load, then you may want to go with a restore if possible.

If you can get IconPackager to load, have you tried the standard procedures:

1 - IconPackager > Tools > Restore all Icons > "Yes" to confirm > OK to apply

2 - Repeat #1 for Rebuild Icon Cache, Repair Icon Images, and Repair Shell Icons

3 - IconPackager > Settings > Restore Defaults

4 - Reboot

5 - Start Icon Packager and attempt to apply a package.

Outside of these standard procedures and checking the registry keys mentioned in comment #2, the only other options I can think of are:

- Uninstall IconDeveloper > reboot > test Icon Packager (note - restore all icons before performing if possible)

- Uninstall both IconDeveloper and IconPackager > reboot > delete the IconDeveloper and IconPackager folders in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop" folder > reinstall IconPackager and test (note - restoring all icons before performing this one is recommended)

- System Restore (or backup restore) as final option (make sure the programs are installed prior to using "System Restore" function).

If any more people experience this one, I would say there is a bug in one of the programs, or in the way they connect to each other.

I have the same problem (and not before).

Starting IP, the program starts to scan the themes folder and it stays on screen for a few seconds and disappear, not enough for doing anything substantial.

Just tried to remvie the last IP installed and now it works fine.

Maybe a problem with Azenis IP ??

Problem must be with Azenis IP... removing it solved the problem on my computer.

I had the same problem mentioned here. I navigated to the iconpacker folder and deleted the Azenis IP icon package and now IP works fine. Was weird as I had just updated IP with this new build that gets rid of that dll and wasnt sure what was causeing the problem.

Grrr... I spent hours trying to get this to Work finally I removed all the packages out of the themes folder and that did the trick and yes Azenis package was the problem. But I think that there may have been another of the latest releases that may be a culprit. Going to go through the Latest ones I installed if you remove the Azenis and this continues to happen I sugest you do the same.

I sure was glad to find this thread on here! I came here cause my Icon Packager crashed too. And, it happened when I was trying to install Azenis. After I saw this, I deleted that package, and all is well now. Thanks so much!

Just to let you know this bug has been fixed internally for IconPackager. The next update will not crash when loading this theme.

I just checked into this forum to see whether anyone else was having the problem with IconPackager refusing to stay open, making a brief appearence on screen, etc. Now I learn I'm not alone and I, too, have Azenis package installed. Now, I've deleted it and will reinstall IconPackager. Then to see whether everything works before checking on other recently installed packages.
