Flooding "Just in Column"
Just Zip It
Wednesday, September 28, 2005 by buzzh58 | Discussion: New Releases
Do I dare suggest that I think they upload every icon seperately because this will boost their download numbers.
So, to all the bootskin, logon and misc icon makers, ZIP IT.

Logons and Bootskins are self-contained archives of a single skin....so really should be separate uploads to facilitate their download/installation as recognized archive formats...ie. .bootskin and .logonXP
The apparent 'flooding' of a 'just in' list is due to a moderator devoting a specific length of time to process a specific section. Sometimes there are few...sometimes there are many. It's a fact of life with a big site that not every upload gets the same amount of day in the spotlight. It's really just 'luck of the draw'.
Once the works are in the gallery they'll be exposed 'equally', but nothing can be practically done about what is perceived as 'flooding' of new uploads...
As for icons, if one skinner uploads one icon we can't reasonably say 'no...come back when you have a score of them in a zip'. That's a bit discriminatory. Not everyone is equally prolific...

I wasnt really talking about a skinner that uploads one icon but a skinner that has a few icons that are all the same theme, thats when they should be zipped as a bunch. If they do upload 5,6, 7 as seperate files can the moderators perhaps only list one in "just in list" instead of all of them. A few days ago out of the ten just in items on front page, 7 were seperate icons by same author, maybe only first of them should have been allowed on list, the rest wouldnt be hard to find if someone wanted them.
Cheers

buzz....unfortunately the 'this just in' is a simple process of site coding to date, so whatever is 'new' is listed. There's nothing in place that limits or distinguishes by any other criteria than 'date'.
Maybe something can be devised to filter via date/number of/Username or something....though I'm no site coder so I can just visualize T-Man removing clumps of hair....

Ditto, for icons i can agree, but for logons and boots although zipping them all in one zip file is easy, the difficult part is to explain everyone else who doesn't know why the bootskin didn't auto-install as usual.
