Well, basically since I downloaded this windowblinds theme, I've been downloading all of the accessories. I had basically everything I required till I saw this screenshot (i'll post it below ) Except, the creator of the theme shows no mention as to what it is called, so if any of you have any idea on the name, or even a possible guess I'd love to hear it


P.S. It's almost exactly the same as a "floating" start menu "dock" I should say.


P.S.S. My desktop theme is working perfectly, this seems to be the only thing I want to look into.

That looks like the compact version of the start menu.  I'm guessing its 'floating' out there just for the screenshot.

Yeah, you have only to open the windowblind configuration then apply the short skin.

Alrighty, do you have any ideas on how I could go about "compacting" my start menu ?

When you say it was 'floating' out there just for the screenshot, do you mean as in artistically touched up as in copy & paste?

But how could such an interesting idea like this go unheard of ... I would 'murder' for something exactly like I've defined. A moveable docking station where I can store quick shortcuts to necessary programs, and the system control buttons.

First one is just a compact start menu ... and Icon in the bottum is IconX (new and incredible OD Util) ...

You might like to try right click.  It is a program included in Object desktop.  It is invisible most of the time, then at right click on the desktop a menu that you build pops up.

You can do what you want to do with either DesktopX or ObjectDock+ (pay version), or really even ObjectBar or Right Click. With DesktopX, you can have your shortcut dock come up in response to whatever hot-key you define.

Also, Tab Launchpad is a movable docking station that  you could add shortcuts to.  I haven't used it in a long time and I don't know that you can put system controls on it.

Are there any 'permanent' fix solutions, as in ones which will stay on my desktop through thick & thin

P.S. I was looking for more something I wouldn't have to customize and play around with, as I don't seem to be the kind of guy to challenge the artistic side of my brain. But yet I am looking for something to match the same theme and colours as CDII.

Well, most of the docks do just that.. find an edge and dock to it.  If you want something that floats toward the center of your screen you would probably most like right click or tab launchpad.   Right click is always there, you only have to click on the desktop and it will be there under your mouse.  Tab launchpad stays where you put it but it might not be able to do system commands.  Object bar might also be a solution for you but I don't know for sure that it floats like t hat.  And you might find a widget that does what you want.  I just cant think of any right now.

All of these are permanent in that once you build them and save them they are there until  you change them.

These programs can use whatever skin you select for them (you choose through easy to understand menus in the configuration window).  When you configure them, you don't really have to create anything.  There is a menu that offers you the components you want.  Tab launchpad, from memory, accepted shortcuts just by dragging the icon onto the tab  you want.  Its kind of like serving yourself at one of those all you can eat places -- only now its virtual and you are going through and picking out the parts of windows you want to include on your application.

Well, I managed to replicate almost exactly what I wanted. Even though I had to resculpt a fake start menu, I feel I've got a perfect desktop object now. Thanks for recommending DesktopX to me, it's a great program, now here are my results ...
