Systray icons???

how to change

yo,
i was wondering how to go about changing a programs systray icon look. i think im right with the name 'systray' what i mean is the icon that appears to the left of an open applications name at the bottom of the screen on xp.

I've been wrong before, but I think the 'systray' are the little icons to the left of the clock - on the right of the task bar.

I think you're talking about the Taskbar Button for each open application and, at the moment, I don't believe those icons can be changed as I think they are drawn from the .exe. I suspect they are not accessible to IconPackager in XP (or prior versions of Windows). That could change in Vista, but haven't heard if it will. Hope it does.

well i had iconpackager 3.0 just the other day, i opened the exe explorer etc and found the icons and tried changing. i just couldnt figure it out. i gave up and uninstalled and all my .exe icons were gone! (known problem with IP3.00) i went on this huge mission to get 3.00a, i got it after hours, finally uninstalled, keeping the icons. i was very worried for a long time. the point is, id rather not get iconpackager again, but i do think its possible. i wanna change the ugly GetRight mini icon- stupid having a skinnable app if that isnt changable.
someone should know....... maybe.

I don't believe the icon that is displayed in the taskbar button is necessarily the same icon as is displayed in Explorer for the .exe file - it is usually one of the icons that is included either in the .exe file or one of the app's dll's - and it is coded in such a way that it is protected somehow. MSWord, for instance, uses the document icon when a document is open and the .exe icon when no document is open. There might be an app out there that will do what you want, but I don't know of one. I'm hoping Vista will open up the taskbar button icon to being changed by the user via IconPackager or a similar app.

I think your right. I went into program files and changed the icon on CCleaner. It caused the start menu icon to reflect my new choice, but when I opened the program the icon on the taskbar remained the same as original .

never mind, i found something. its called "program icon changer". it was a success. you need to register it to use it with transperancies though

If PIC can do it, then I was wrong and SD should incorporate that trick into IP. I'd like that a lot.

its really easy to use too, the interface is crap though, but that doesnt really matter at all. just be sure to work off a backup of the exe.
