should people be commenting on skin?

Wednesday, July 13, 2005 by Bash2cool | Discussion: OS Customization

To me personaly, i think that commenting on people's skins is like helping them make better skins in the future because the person would read his comments and either think that he needs to make a better skin or just be proud of himself and move on. i was proud of myself when i moved from a citizen to an apprentice. So should people comment on skin? the answer is yes because it helps them think about how they made their skins and what can they do better to make a better skin. i always browse around people's skins and notice that a lot of the skin i've seen are not commented mean while they deserve to be commented because of how good they are.

please place comments on what you think.

I think that a lack of comments is saying something. It is saying your work is not very good. Remember the saying...If you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all.

When anyone makes a skin and releases it for free, the least others can do is to let him/her know how good/bad the skin is.

Constructive criticism is always tolerated

Constructive criticism is useful to improve your work, but beeing pointed out the good parts is also a vital part.

Just an observation: Skins in some categories (WBs, IPs) tend to get alot of comments, but in other categories (Misc Icons, OD items, Boots), most submissions don't get comments, though they may get alot of downloads,

One of the things I like about WC: The lack of put-downs & flaming. When there's criticism, it's almost always constructive in nature, This kind of interaction lets the skinner learn & improve & it says alot about the administration of the site & the maturity of the WC community

I think people should comment on skins. Everyone likes a pat on the back for a job well done. Also, constructive criticism helps the skinner improve his art. There are alot of people in the WC community who may not have the talent to do skinning(like myself), but often times may have ideas on how to improve a skin or a concept that they can pass along to someone who has the talent and skill.

There's a big difference between Maturity in skin comments and helping people answer questions and being gullible and accepting everything that is said by certain individuals.

Apologies to all the skinners who I've downloaded skins of and didn't any leave comments. It was never because the work was sub-standard or not good enough, but more that it didn't occur to me at the time...sorry. There's too many to name inividually, but I most likely have something from everyone and its all good. Every skinner here has something great to offer because so many tastes are catered to with pride, effort and talent.

In future I shall try to remember to leave comments.

Thanks guys! I think skinners need to hear that more often!
I might be a slacking designer who needs skill but by the godz of asgard I want comments!
How else am i to know whats wrong with my skin/widget/or what ever else i make?
heck there was a post about the diffference between DX and another gadget program and comments had been posted about several problems with the core weather widget...if people would have posted the comments to the skin the designers would most likely fix it. or even email the designers the problems...

I too forget to comment (many times). Because like Hippie, I am too excited and I want to try the skin immediately...

It is not that I think that there's no talent out here. There's many many good skins...
