WinFX problem

doesn't work correctly for some situations

Wednesday, June 8, 2005 by czeeric | Discussion: Beta

Dear Support,

I have been using WinFX since May this year, and I am now using the latest beta. However, since the beginning, I found that it doesn't work with Eudora and MSN Messenger 7 quite well. In MSN Messenger 7 it's the shadow problem. The shaddow is lightly bigger than the window, hence, gaps between the window and its shadow. More trouble in Eudora. WinFX seems not working properly on my WinXP Professional. It only draws the shadow but not the window. This almost happening everytime. If I do not switch the semi-transparent option on for "system context menus", I have to restart Eudora a few times in order to get it to be drawn "by chance". Even I make Eudora as 100% visible in the per Application setting, the problem still comes back.

FYI. I am running WinXP Pro on IBM T40 with ATI Raedon 7500 w/32MB DDR. My system is a Centrino 1.4GHz with 1280MB (1GB + 256MB) main memory.

I wonder if the future versions of WinFX could solve my problem.

I can explain the msn one. Msn windows use their own skins with their own shapes. At best winfx shadows can barely adjust to windowblinds shaped skins, it probably doesnt have a clue about the shape of other specially skinned programs. The gaps you see are most likely normal.

Regarding eudora pro, i dont use that program so i cant be sure why its not appearing, but i get a similar problem with Zonealarm. If i try to restore from tray with windowfx running it simply doesnt appear. This stops if i exclude it using the windowfx exclude list.

You wont be able to make cool windowfx on all your programs, some may behave funny but that is more likely to do with the way they are programmed to draw than with windowfx. i suggest posting to support@stardock.com with the programs name and its problem, and it might get added to a built in exclusion list, or if you just want to solve the problem yourself try adding it to the built in exclusion list and see if that works

hope this helps.
