How do I make desktop icons bigger

...without the rest of my icons being affected.
I'm sorry, but customizing is all new to me, any help would be appreciated.
I don't want to use IconX, I got rid of it a long time ago. I didn't like how it renamed icons, or how sometimes my icons would disapear until I unloaded IconX and loaded it again.
Is there a way to have my destop icons larger, without having my Start menu icons and folder icons being resized too?
I already tried going to Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Advanced > Icon, and changed my icons to 48x48 and it worked great... Then I found out it affected more then just my destop. I also tried the Registry Editor from HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel > Desktop > WindowMetrics > Shell Icon Size.

*nods* The only real way is by using a DesktopX object. Once you've downloaded Builder, create an object for each icon, set the images and links, then group and export. It's easier than it sounds, and it'll look great.

I do not know of a way to use the Windows explorer shell to change icon sizes that would not affect more than just the desktop.
For Stardock applications, you could try:
1 - ObjectDock (this would obviously place them on a dock, so may not be what you are looking for).
2 - DesktopX, which allows you to create shortcut objects which you can then assign an image to.
There may be some other programs out there as well.
I believe you will be stuck with using a third party program to accomplish that task.
