Dell incompatible with something in suite
help please

Last night I just got my new computer, and wanted to install a slick theme I found online. Now after downloading everything and restarting, the computer kept tell me I had some sort of error of IRQL_Equal_to_Less or something around those lines. I didn't write it down before I restored my system to a previous state.
Now, I'm curious what happened cause I'd like to install the theme. But, I have a feeling it was something to do with the bootskin possibly? I'm running a new dell, with Windows XP SP1. Is there something on the computer that prevents these things from being allowed to be used or something like that? Thanks for the help.

Hi,
I have gotten errors like that,loading themes, or desktops that are designed to link to online situations,[like weather checkers].I usually take a chance and tell it to load anyway. because the person who wrote it,had it working for them.
If thats the issue though,if you load the desktop while your online you shouldn't receive an error.

I tried using Bootskin on my dell once before...but something didn't seem quite right with it so I haven't used it since. Plus after reading other posts about problems with it I decided it wasn't worth the headaches. But I'm sure it works for some people.

I have a new Dell with SP2 and Bootskin works fine. The problem is most bootskins look horrible anyway. There's just not a whole lot you can do with them to make them look very good. Granted, there are some...but thankfully they pass by pretty quickly...almost gone before you notice

So is it safe in any way to customize a dell PC with themes? I mean, not the suites but just the themes.

Absolutely, my Dell would feel naked without Windowblinds, Iconpackager, CursorX, IconX and Logon Studio.

I have a Dell. Makes a good footrest. I found it was cheaper to build my own.

Eh, this was more a temp until I could buy my own. I needed a new pc before the one I had died completely (gateway, 5-6yrs old, corrupt c drive) since I work on net and can't live without a PC for more than a day. 
Anyway, so just don't use bootskins, and everything should be fine yes? All I want to do is change the look of desktop and the rest of appearance.

No Boss019 - I built myself a machine that is more powerful than the Dell I had.
Interstingly enough if you build a system from scratch it is cheaper than buying a Dell.

Of course it's cheaper and you can get more for your money if you know what you're doing, and it's a lot of fun and there's a sense of accomplishment when it's done and working. I used to do woodworking and furniture design and doing it yourself and seeing the finished product is awesome. Sadly, most out there don't have the time or the skill or knowledge to build a computer, so we buy the best we can for what we are willing to pay. My hat's off to you for building your own. Some people just don't get my sarcasm and weird sense of humor...even me

Ok thanks for the help guys! I look forward to using these programs in the near future (going to upgrade my ram to 1gb first!)
