Why is my BootSkin file so large?

Saturday, May 21, 2005 by Martin Eden | Discussion: OS Customization

I've created a new BootSkin (nearly ready to upload to WinCustomize - just wait a few more days!).
The files that make it up (the background, progress bar, and ini file) come to about 150KB.
As well as this, most of the .bootskins available on WinCustomize seem to be between 10-100KB.
However, when I selected "Export selected skin to file.." in BootSkin I ended up with a .bootskin
file 2.32 MB in size. Any ideas why?

Update: Instead of using the BootSkin export feature, I just zipped up the three files and renamed it as a .bootskin. That works fine and is only about 54KB. So what is the export feature for? If it is just supposed to zip them up and give them the right extension, should I report this as a bug?

Just wondering, since I don't use bootskin, when it exports - is it exporting it with just the skin or with the skin and program?

Just the skin. It's a file that you open with the BootSkin executable and it then imports the skin, creating a folder in the skins subdirectory with the three files.

That is weird Martin. I just did an export test on one of my BootSkins and it exported with the same size as it does with the zip & rename method. Does this happens with every skin? BTW, Im using v1.03

You might have extra fiels in the boots' folder like the preview, etc.

BS puts EVERYTHING in that folder into the .bootskin file.
